Longline Roses Frame with Concord & 9th

Hello!  Today I have some beautiful roses to show off!  These lovely ones are from Kristina Werner at Concord and 9th and are called Long Line Roses Bundle, and it includes a stamp set, stencils, and coordinating dies.   Later this week I’ll show you how the stencils work, but for the first card, I decided to emboss the roses in gold, and then pull out my watercolour brush and watercolour the image.  The set has such a unique lined design, so it was perfect for varieting tone with watercolour.  

After embossing and watercolouring, I created a frame using a Spellbinders Embossing Folder and gilding it with gold Lunar Paste, trimming out the middle of the frame with a die.  

I trimmed apart the pieces to get them to fit nicely in an arrangement around the frame and then added in the gold embossed sentiment.  

Just a couple of gold enamel dots finish the design.  So many possibilities with this beautiful set!

Longline Roses Frame with Concord & 9th

Purple Watercoloured Poinsettia with Crafty Meraki

 

Feeling delighted to bring you a beautiful floral today!  I’m guesting with Crafty Meraki this month and their Countdown to Christmas.  This beauty uses Crafty Meraki’s Blooming Noel stamp set and coordinating dies.  I stamped the image multiple times, embossing it in silver.  Then I cut it out with the die in layers, watercolouring the leaves and petals with Daniel Smith watercolours.  I LOVE watercolouring, just don’t often take the time to do it. 

Here you can get a bit of a better picture of the layers.  I’ve added foam dots between the sections so it has lots of dimension.  

The background is created by inkblending Blueprint Sketch and Wilted Violet Distress Inks, with some splatter to give the feel of bokeh.  A pretty shimmery strip is cut with Crafty Meraki’s ZigZag Zoom Die set.  

The sentiment uses Crafty Meraki’s Handmade Love Hot Foil Plate and silver foil, and for some bling I’ve added Sapphire Night Dew Drops from CM.  Sometimes a card comes together even better than you had hoped, and I really enjoyed creating this one!  Thanks so much for dropping by!

Purple Watercoloured Poinsettia with Crafty Meraki

Golden Petal Watercolour with The Stamp Market

Hello!  Today I’m excited to bring you a watercolour design of floral postage!  It’s been too long since I’ve pulled out my brushes.  This beautiful image is from The Stamp Market is such a beauty, and is called - Floral Note.  

I embossed the image in gold onto Arches Cold Pressed watercolour paper, and then pulled out Daniel Smith watercolours of Quin Coral, Quin Gold, Cobalt, Jadeite Genuine, and Serpentine Green.  

Then I cut it into postage size sections with The Stamp Market’s Postage Stamps Cover Die, and used a gold sharpie and a ruler to outline the postage stamps.   

Next, I layered it over a cardbase of deep evergreen with stripes of coordinating cardstock using The Stamp Market’s  1/4 inch and 1/2 inch Quick Strips die.  

The sentiment from the set is also embossed on the card.  Those gold touches really add a lovely touch to the watercoloured petals.  I hope you’ve enjoyed it!

Golden Petal Watercolour with The Stamp Market

All Star Dad with Power Poppy

 

As I said yesterday, it’s been fun to peruse through some of my stamps from ages ago.  I came across this beauty from Power Poppy called Baseball Vignette.  I think it’s a fantastic masculine set!  I printed it on watercolour paper and gave it some life wth Daniel Smith Watercolours, which was really fun.  I evokes that vintage, old school baseball game that makes it feel like Summer!  

To tie in the Father’s Day element, I printed the sentiment from the set onto blue cardstock, added some enamel stars and placed it on a background that I stencilled with stripes using paper and embossing paste.  So many teams have that striped style in their uniforms.  The bottom of the card uses the Quilted Card Front Die from Concord & 9th.  It has a great rustic feel.  

All for my beloved husband who is an amazing Dad.  And, he could plan a mean game of softball back in the day!

All Star Dad with Power Poppy

Watercolor Hollyhocks

Today I have a taste of summer for you!  I’ve travelled twice in the last month to different parts of California for work and am hungry for the green and floral months to come back to my area of the world.  

I purchased the beautiful Botanicut Hollyhocks Dies from The Greetery and did some watercolor with them to make a pretty summery arrangement.  I cut the dies several times to give me enough pieces to layer with and then used Daniel Smith watercolours to give the petals and leaves some colour.  This arrangment uses Quinachridone Coral, Quinachridone Violet, Bordeaux, Sap Green and Serpentine Green.  

 

I also softly painted in the background of shadowed stalks of hollyhocks in the distance.  When I achieved an arrangement I liked, I used my Press n Seal to hold it all together, added glue on the back of the stalks and then placed it on the watercoloured background.  

Because I needed some more thank you cards, I added the Thanks Greeting from The Greetery’s set Print Shope Spring Mix along a banner of deep magenta for an extra pop of colour.  

All that dimension, texture and colour is really striking together.

Watercolor Hollyhocks

Cozy Nest

I love watching for and listening to the songs of all the little local birds soaking up the spring weather these days, it makes my heart happy every time I hear them!  So, I have birds on my mind and had dto use this adorable die set from The Greetery called  Curio:  Spring Findings Die.  

I placed the entire die set onto Arches watercolour paper and cut all the little pieces in one large section, then leaving the cut outs in the paper, I watercoloured each little piece with Zig Clean Cut Real Brush markers.  The vibrancy of these markers and the brush edge really works well with the fine details of the die cuts.  

I layered all the pieces in a design I thought would be sweet, and placed them in different levels onto a watercoloured background.  The sentiment comes from The Greetery’s Print Shop:  Spring Mix Stamp, and I’ve added a few splatters of watercolour to speck the background like I’ve speckled the robin’s eggs.   

Tiny fussy details, but oh so fun to bring everything together in the end to create a cozy scene!

Cozy Nest

Copper Jungle

Well, I hope you’ve enjoyed some “greenery” on St. Patrick’s Day, and now you’re ready for some more  - but in the botanical variety!  Months ago I embossed the set in copper, and watercoloured this beautiful background from Power Poppy called Big Sexy Leaves (retired).  It was a 6 x 6 stamp that is great for backgrounds, simply stamped, but also with so much potential for great colouring.  

I used Daniel Smith Watercolours, and then added a bit of punch with the vibrant Zig Clean Colour Real Brush Markers.  It really ups the vibrancy.  

I’m always amazed by the variety in leaves.  This Christmas our boys got us a year round pass to our botanical pyramids called Muttart Conservatory.  There are 4 pyramids that have unique biospheres, including a tropical one that is full of varieties of colourful leaves.  We’re there at least once a month to enjoy the warmth and growth.  I thought you might enjoy a couple of pictures from recent visits.  

 

Amazing isn’t it?  The new feature pyramid just opened this week, it changes 5 - 7 times a year and this season it’s a Tulip theme.  I can’t wait to go and see it!  

The diecut sentiment is from MFT, and I added some ombre colour to the lettters with the Zig markers to deliniate it from the background, as well as popping it up.  

Copper is such a classy colour and pairs so nicely with this blue green!

Watercolor Hope Series - Day 4

Today I’m back with the last of my Hope Series Watercolour Wreaths.   This last design was a fun one to create because there is such a simplicity about the flowers that makes it a little folksy.  

To create the flowers I used Daniel Smith’s Quinacridone Coral and painted the largest and palest circles first.  This allowed me to get the composition I’d like.  Then as each layer dried I added in more concentrated colour and the smaller flowers to give the feeling of deeper colours of petals.  A few dots of black paint in the center of each flower and simple two-toned leaves (DS Sap Green) give the wreath definition and body.  

Layered on the circular card base with a few background dots to tie it together, makes the cheerful design complete.    The stamp is again from Stamp Simply, called Hope.

Watercolour Hope Series - Day 2

Hello!  I’m back with Day 2 of my Watercolouring series based on the theme of Hope.   

The wreaths I’m showing are ones I painted last year as part of a 30 Day Project.  This design is painted with Daniel Smith Watercolours, including dainty roses and petals and different types of greenery in this one.  After I finished painting them, I outlined the shapes with a fine line multi-liner pen.  

The lovely verse is from Stamp Simply’s Hope stamp set.  When your heart and brain are racing with all of the worries of your day and the world, it is good to know that we can find rest and hope from God.

Watercolour Hope Series - Day 2

Lemons and Rest Watercolour Wreath

 

Hello!  If you follow me on Instagram (ChristineCreationsArt) you’ll have heard that I’m working through a project this season called the #100DayProject, where you pick some type of art that you’d like to work on for a period of 100 days.  I decided to work on some freehand watercolour wreaths.  So, today’s design is one I painted last week and then put a pretty Bible verse on it to complete a card.  

Lemons are such a cheerful fruit!  I painted these with Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolours on Arches Cold Pressed Watercolour paper.  

The lovely verse is from Stamp Simply’s set Hope.  It’s full of lovely Scripture around the hope theme.  

To complete the design I added some tiny check gingham paper and a bit of baker’s twine.  Such a lovely invitation to find rest.

Dainty Heart Wreath Watercolour

 

Valentine’s is just 12 days away, that really snuck up on me.  How about you?  This season to grow a component of my art, I decided to join in on the #100DayProject and work on some watercolouring over 100 days.  I decided to work around the theme of wreaths.  There’s something very lovely about a wreath, and it helps me work on my freehand watercolouring.  Sometimes I’m inspired by other people’s creations and saw a dainty heart-shaped wreath with leaves and it inspired me for this design.  

I started by making an twig/branch outline with DS Burnt Sienna, on 300 lb cold pressed watercolor paper and added in all the little leaves around the heart with DS Sap Green.  Then I added the tiny hearts in DS Pyrrol Red.  I love the asymmetry of the heart, I think it creates so much more interest.  

As final touch I stamped the sentiment from Stamp Simply’s set Love, in Memento Ink and then painted within the stamped lines with Pyrrol Red, adding a little heart in the middle.  It makes for a very simple yet classy design.

Watercolour Giveaway on Instagram!

Hello!  A few weeks ago I changed up my Instagram account to have a profile for all my card creations and original artwork.  This account is public, so anyone can see it and then I can keep my family life and everyday photos on my private account.

I did a little freehand watercolour wreath with Daniel Smith Watercolours, including this beautiful quote I found.  I really resonate with what it says:  “Where I create, there I am true”.  

Some pretty roses and grape hyacinth adorn the wreath.  It’s 6 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches.  It would make a nice little reminder in your creative space.  I want to spread a little sunshine out there

Watercolour Giveaway on Instagram!

Abundant Birthday Blossoms

Yesterday was a friend’s birthday and I wanted to give her a card that celebrates things we both love, gardening, flower and art.  We’ve brainstormed via phone, text and video chats about new garden spaces we’re both planning this season.  We’ve compared notes and drawings and it’s been a fun way to anticipate spring. Especially since it was a bit late arriving here.  

I pulled out one of my favourites, Power Poppy’s Abundant Petals (a bummer that it’s sold out right now, but I’m sure it will be back soon!).  Stamping it onto watercolour paper with VersaFine ink and then watercolouring them up with some vibrant colours using Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors.  My friend and I both have a love of a cottage style garden - or wild as we’ve both described it, with lots of colour and variety.  I tried to mimic that a bit in this card garden.  

After watercolouring I die cut all the pieces using the coordinating dies for this set and arranged them all on a watercolour background (Jadeite Green if you were wondering.  I love it’s granulation).  

I love this little sentiment in the set!  I’ve added a couple of clear sequins to accent the design.  

She loves donuts, it’s her love language :), so we made some raspberry cake donuts and I packaged them up with a bow and tag.  

This sweetly scripted sentiment is from the Floribunda set.  Tied up with a big fat yellow bow and a bit of twine and it’s a cheerful little treat that I dropped off socially distantly to surprise her.

Abundant Birthday Blossoms

Dreaming of Flower Gardens

I love my flower gardens.  Right now I’m anxiously awaiting all the snow melting so I can start to get going on gardening.  One of my friends wants to start some new flower gardens this year and asked me to help her dream of what to plant.  We have the same planting style  - she describes it as wild!  I love lots of colour and lots of variety, so a bit of a cottage garden feel.  So, it’s been fun to imagine some new possibilities with her.  It’s put me in the mood for some lovely Power Poppy flowers, like this  Tree Peony Digital.  I WISH we could grow the tree kind, but we’re zone 3 so, I will be content with regular peonies.  

I’ve watercolored this image with Daniel Smith watercolours on Arches cold pressed watercolour paper, after cutting some of the leaves “out of the box”style, I used a Spellbinder’s die to trim it out in this elegant square shape.   The card is 4 3/4 x 4 3/4. 

To bring some colour to the design to match the vibrance of the peonies, I addes some patterned paper flags to peek out. The lovely scripted sentiment is stamped with the  Simply Camellias set.  

To capture a little bit of old-world romance that this card has, I’ve tied a pretty crochet lace bow along the top of the design.

Dreaming of Flower Gardens

Call to Your True Colours Artwork

Blessings on this Palm Sunday to you!  I wanted to share an original piece of artwork I recently painted.  Watercoloured with Daniel Smith Watercolours on Arches Cold Pressed Watercolour paper.  

This season I began an Easter Art Exhibition at our Church with other artists around the theme "Vision of the Christ”.  Today it went live on-line and this is the piece I submitted.  It’s Called “Call to Your True Colours”.  Here is my description of the artwork. 

Luke 22:60-61 “Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed.  The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter”.  

DESCRIPTION OF THIS ARTWORK:

Though the rooster crowing must have been a moment of shame, fear and conviction for Peter, I think it equally as much was the moment Peter came to himself.  It was the call back to who he truly was.  A disciple of Jesus, a friend of the Lord, a man of conviction and faith.  Black roosters are never truly black, they reflect numerous colours in their feathers.  In this piece,  I tried to play up the underlying colours of the rooster to represent the call to Peter to come back to himself, and his true identity as a follower of Jesus Christ.  Now it is our call - come back to your true colours seen through Jesus’ eyes.

Call to Your True Colours Artwork

Black Beauty Orchid Watercolour

Popping in with some rich watercolours paired with this lovely design from Power Poppy called Ruffled Wild Orchids.  You know, in my head as I was colouring these I was thinking irises...they’re not irises....they’re Cattelya Orchids, but I gave them some deep colouring a bit like some Black Beauty Irises with tones of blue and purples, and then tones of black.   I have a paint from Daniel Smith that I really love, it’s Lunar Black.  It’s this beautiful shade of black with purple undertones and it’s awesome for adding shadows and for a pretty background like I added here as well.  

The sentiment in the circle is from the set Loving Tulips (on sale right now!) 

And a final peek at the sequins, scalloped dies to accent and ombre patterned paper to match the ombre of the watercolouring.
