Longline Roses Frame with Concord & 9th

Hello!  Today I have some beautiful roses to show off!  These lovely ones are from Kristina Werner at Concord and 9th and are called Long Line Roses Bundle, and it includes a stamp set, stencils, and coordinating dies.   Later this week I’ll show you how the stencils work, but for the first card, I decided to emboss the roses in gold, and then pull out my watercolour brush and watercolour the image.  The set has such a unique lined design, so it was perfect for varieting tone with watercolour.  

After embossing and watercolouring, I created a frame using a Spellbinders Embossing Folder and gilding it with gold Lunar Paste, trimming out the middle of the frame with a die.  

I trimmed apart the pieces to get them to fit nicely in an arrangement around the frame and then added in the gold embossed sentiment.  

Just a couple of gold enamel dots finish the design.  So many possibilities with this beautiful set!

Stunning Magnolias from Crafty Meraki

Hello!  I’m delighted to be hopping on Instagram with the Crafty Meraki Team for the beautiful March Release called Meraki Harmony.  There are so many delightful designs this month, and I had a wonderful time creating.  Today, I’m starting off with one of my favourite cards from this release, it uses the gorgeous Whimsical Magnolias Presstacular Plate.  Magnolias are one of my favourite flowers - even though they don’t grow here in my part of Canada.  

The shimmer is lovely on the press plate when you foil it!  I coloured the design with Copics, using the coordinating Meraki Para-Die die to die cut it out.  The background is watercoloured with Daniel Smith Watercolours, and splatters of white acrylic paint.  A few vellum die cut circles give anchoring points for the layout.

Rosey Roses with Simon Says Stamp

 

Hi There!  A few weeks ago when I was watercolouring a Simon Says Stamp’s amazing Beautiful Flowers Set, I also embossed the loose roses from the set, and after painting them I set them aside for later.  They made for a really pretty arrangement for a second card.  

To play off the colours of the roses, I did some ink blending, and colour lifting with a stencil in the background.  It makes for great colour and texture.  To accent and add some sparkle, I used Crafty Meraki’s Olive Leaf Para-Die on gold glitter paper.  It’s perfect for extra foliage.  

The sentiment is from Concord & 9th’s die set, Short and Sweet Dies,  and I’ve added in some ‘berry’ enamel dots to accent.

Rosey Roses with Simon Says Stamp

Love and Hugs Watercoloured Roses from SSS

Hello!  The monthly challenge on Instagram for Simon Says Stamp is watercolouring, so I thought I’d pull out one of my Simon Says Stamps sets called Beautiful Flowers , because it really IS beautiful!  I embossed the image onto Arches watercolour paper, and pulled out some of my Daniel Smith Watercolour tubes to paint.  

It almost feels a bit like cheating when you watercolour over embossing.  The raised edges of the embossing hold your colours in each section so nicely.  This image has a lot of gold in it, so over all it was easy to paint. I used the coordinating dies for the set to die cut the image out. 

I also created a background using a Gothic stencil and embossing paste with ink splatters.  It gives it so much great texture.  

The sentiment is from the set, also embossed in gold, and a few mirrored sequins make it sparkly.

Purple Watercoloured Poinsettia with Crafty Meraki

 

Feeling delighted to bring you a beautiful floral today!  I’m guesting with Crafty Meraki this month and their Countdown to Christmas.  This beauty uses Crafty Meraki’s Blooming Noel stamp set and coordinating dies.  I stamped the image multiple times, embossing it in silver.  Then I cut it out with the die in layers, watercolouring the leaves and petals with Daniel Smith watercolours.  I LOVE watercolouring, just don’t often take the time to do it. 

Here you can get a bit of a better picture of the layers.  I’ve added foam dots between the sections so it has lots of dimension.  

The background is created by inkblending Blueprint Sketch and Wilted Violet Distress Inks, with some splatter to give the feel of bokeh.  A pretty shimmery strip is cut with Crafty Meraki’s ZigZag Zoom Die set.  

The sentiment uses Crafty Meraki’s Handmade Love Hot Foil Plate and silver foil, and for some bling I’ve added Sapphire Night Dew Drops from CM.  Sometimes a card comes together even better than you had hoped, and I really enjoyed creating this one!  Thanks so much for dropping by!

Purple Watercoloured Poinsettia with Crafty Meraki

Golden Petal Watercolour with The Stamp Market

Hello!  Today I’m excited to bring you a watercolour design of floral postage!  It’s been too long since I’ve pulled out my brushes.  This beautiful image is from The Stamp Market is such a beauty, and is called - Floral Note.  

I embossed the image in gold onto Arches Cold Pressed watercolour paper, and then pulled out Daniel Smith watercolours of Quin Coral, Quin Gold, Cobalt, Jadeite Genuine, and Serpentine Green.  

Then I cut it into postage size sections with The Stamp Market’s Postage Stamps Cover Die, and used a gold sharpie and a ruler to outline the postage stamps.   

Next, I layered it over a cardbase of deep evergreen with stripes of coordinating cardstock using The Stamp Market’s  1/4 inch and 1/2 inch Quick Strips die.  

The sentiment from the set is also embossed on the card.  Those gold touches really add a lovely touch to the watercoloured petals.  I hope you’ve enjoyed it!

Peaceful Lilacs with The Greetery

Happy Sunday evening!  For us in Canada its a long weekend, and I’m so grateful for the extra time of rest.  A friend asked if I had any cards for retirement, and I had to admit I didn’t!  But, hey I’m a card maker and I love to create, so I put some creative time into a few retirement cards this weeked.  This first design is a breath of fresh air from The Greetery, using the very lovely Lilac Botanicuts Die.  

 

I cut the lilacs on watercolour paper and pulled out my Daniel Smith watercolours and added pretty purples and pinks (Carbazole Violet and Quin Violet) to the blossoms.  This die set is great because you can get so much dimension with the extra single blossoms added to the main branch.  After adhering everything together I came back with my Zig Clear Real Brush markers to add some deeper colour and the centers to each blossom, as well as some definition on the leaves.  After everything was adhered together I added splatters of watered down white acrylic paint.  

The card background is ink blended and then texture is added with Waffle Flower’s Sweet Plaid Texture Plate.  A retired Ric Rack die added a little accent along the top and the purple foiled sentiment is from Spellbinders called Yana’s Sentiments Glimmer.

Peaceful Lilacs with The Greetery

Two Techniques with Crafty Meraki!

 

Hello Crafty Meraki friends!  Today I’m back with week THREE of my Guest design posts for Crafty Meraki , and this week we’re all about techniques!  I have two designs with two different techniques but similar colour palettes to show you today.  

First up, I created a design that showcases foiling, ink blending, and a faux spotlight technique with a lovely result.  

I began by ink blending the background of white paper with Distress Oxide Inks in blues to raspberry shades in an ombre feel.  I heat set the paper and then foiled the beautiful 

Crafty Meraki Elegance Hot Foil Plate onto it with my Glimmer Machine in silver.  I foiled the image a second time on Copic XPress it Blending paper, and used that for Copic colouring part of the image.  

When my colouring was completed, I trimmed out the part of the image that I wanted to use as a type of “spotlight” of the design, where just part of the image is coloured, and attached it with foam dots.  

I also foiled the sentiment from Handmade Love.  I die cut a sparkly silver frame to add attention to the Copic coloured part of the design, which also serves to anchor that part of the card, and finally added some silver enamel dots for more shimmer and shine.  

My second card showcases embossing and watercoloring!

I have loved watercolouring for so many years, so it was high time I pulled it out again!   I began by heat embossing the lovely arrangement from the stamp set Reason to Smile onto watercolour paper with Embossing ink and a heat tool.  The raised silver embossing creates a “border” for the watercolouring to sit in which makes painting the small sections a quick process.  I used Daniel Smith watercolours for their beautiful vibrancy.  

I painted in a very soft wash of background, some paint splatter and then white acrylic paint splatter to bring some texture.  

The embossed sentiment is included in the set and I added it onto a coordinating colour of cardstock, trimmed it out and popped it up on the design with foam dots, and a few enamel dots to match.  That soft creamy white is such a lovely backdrop for the vibrant flowers!

Two Techniques with Crafty Meraki!

Mixed Media Coral Poppies

 

Hello!  I’m back with another poppy design to show you as we move into Remembrance Day tomorrow for Canadians.  Lest we forget the cost of war, the loss of life....it seems especially poignant this season.  So though this isn’t a remembrance card, those poppies are a nod to all the ways we need to remember. 

This design uses all sorts of mediums, but begins with these gorgeous poppies from PaperTrey Ink called Into the Blooms: Poppies.  This time I did a coral version, starting with coral cardstock, adding Distress Ink for shading as well as Prismacolor Pencils for definition in the petals and leaves.  

For the background of this mini-slimline design, I watercoloured some shades of light green and a few soft peachy shades so that it feels like the poppies are in a field of green.   A foiled sentiment from Spellbinders  Mini Everyday Sentiments foiled in Rose Gold.  The dimension with all the layers is really great!

Mixed Media Coral Poppies

Golden Watercolour Poinsettias with Spellbinders

I’ve relented and am starting Christmas designs, so I thought we should begin with a bang and real beauty from Spellbinders called Poinsettia Bloom Etched Dies and the gorgeous foiled background from Spellbinders called Pine Sprays.   The poinsettia set is mean to be a straight die set, but for fun, I foiled the outline of the die and then decided to pull out my Daniel Smith watercolours and painted the bloom and greenery.  You can see the flecks of gold outlining the sectinos of the petals and leaves from the foiling with makes for a lovely effect.  

Next I used the outline part of the die to create layers of golden foiled greenery and metallic gold accents from paper.  It has amazing gold shimmer in real life.  It’s layered on an older Spellbinders circle die with intricate cutting, and then layered onto the foiled pine card base.  Tons of dimension. 

A pretty foiled sentiment from Yana’s Sentiments Glimmer with a pop of colour and some gold sequins add more glam.

Golden Watercolour Poinsettias with Spellbinders

Look for the Rainbows with TCP

 

Hi TCP Friends!  How is life in your corner of the world?  I’m feeling the desire to hold on to Summer as long as I can.  We’ve had a beautiful Summer and despite some weeks of smoke in Canada, we’ve also had plentiful sunshine and rain so things are beautifully green!  

Don’t you love those Summer thunderstorms?  Today’s adorable design uses the newly released Look for the Rainbows Digi stamp.  I was inspired by our adorable bunny looking up into the heart rain that I decided that I’d create my own watercolour background for him.  

I pulled out some of my Daniel Smith watercolours and painted a cute rainbow background for the scene.  

The bunny is coloured up with Copics and then I’ve added coloured pencil to bring in the details and add that feelign of rain to the background.  A few hearts from a retired TCP die tie in the image to the background.  And the cute background clouds are from Concord and 9th.  

It makes for a sweet encouragement card!!

Look for the Rainbows with TCP

All Star Dad with Power Poppy

 

As I said yesterday, it’s been fun to peruse through some of my stamps from ages ago.  I came across this beauty from Power Poppy called Baseball Vignette.  I think it’s a fantastic masculine set!  I printed it on watercolour paper and gave it some life wth Daniel Smith Watercolours, which was really fun.  I evokes that vintage, old school baseball game that makes it feel like Summer!  

To tie in the Father’s Day element, I printed the sentiment from the set onto blue cardstock, added some enamel stars and placed it on a background that I stencilled with stripes using paper and embossing paste.  So many teams have that striped style in their uniforms.  The bottom of the card uses the Quilted Card Front Die from Concord & 9th.  It has a great rustic feel.  

All for my beloved husband who is an amazing Dad.  And, he could plan a mean game of softball back in the day!

All Star Dad with Power Poppy

Altenew Inspired Hibiscus

 

I’ve been having a blast creating with new and old things this season.  I was looking through a stamp basket of mine and found this pretty Altenew set called Hibiscus Bouquet and thought, man I haven’t used that in ages!  So, I pulled it out and decided to play along with Altenew’s Inspiration challenge this month which calls for some fun colours.  

Now, I know Hibiscus come in gorgeous pink voilet shades so that’s the direction I went.  I inked the flowers with Concord and 9th inks and then washed out the colour slightly onto the petals to soften the colours. I also splattered ink across the paper to keep with that casual loose petal look.  

I added a pretty touch with MFT’s Octagon Frames foiling, and a foiled sentiment from Spellbinders Mini Everyday Sentiments.  They are the perfect size for a pretty banner sentiment.  

The final touch is a few sequins for some shiny glitz.  Really fun loose florals and they make a great statement across the card.

Altenew Inspired Hibiscus

Fresh Air Watercolours from SSS

 

I’m always drawn to beautiful florals, and stamps you can use more than one way, and in this case, with one of my favourite styles, watercolour.  So, this gorgeous set and coordinating dies from Simon Says Stamps called Fresh Air Flowers really caught my eye.  Aren’t they beautiful!?  

I achieved the watercolour effect by stamping them with Concord & 9th Ink on Arches watercolour paper, then misting them with water to allow them to bleed.  That soft effect is so pretty.  The background is a mix of tulips, delphinium and petunias, at least that’s what I imagine them to be.  

Next, a layer of MFT’s Elegant Stitched Arches dies in vellum  to soften the watercolour effect even more, and Fig C & 9 cardstock.  Then I added the embossed sentiment from the set, stamped and die cut flowers from the set as the focal piece.  I tucked in a cardstock circle under the vellum so you could see the sentiment.  

A really fun design to get inky with to play along in Simon Says Stamp Watercolour Challenge.
