Inspired High Top Converse from MFT

 

I find inspiration to be such a fun topic!  A few weeks ago we happened to be in mall looking for a birthday present for our son, when I spied a new colour of Converse runners across the store - a beautiful soft blue green caught my eye!  TOO cute!  But I don’t love the high tops as much as the low ones so I passed on them (plus it wasn’t my Birthday!)

Then I keep coming back to inspiration with Converse runners where embroidery artists work magical little floral scenes on the shoes.  And hey - why not do it on paper shoes!  So, that’s where this card was born.  

Using these products from MFT:  LLD All-Star High Top Dienamics, and the Everything Wonderful card Kit dies (couldn’t find them in the store), with the Everything Wonderful Sentiments.  

Building this adorable shoe was so fun!  I did all the assembling first and then punched holes into the design to form some flowers (and I’m no expert at this), and then stitching with some embroidering floss.  

Then I created the background with a die from The Greetery Aida Cloth.  I creates texture and is a nod to the embroidery.  

Then I added in all the pretty stitchable flowers from the kit in coordinating colours, and the stamped sentiment.  

This gives you an idea of the kind of inspiration I’ve been influenced by, so great aren’t they?

Stitching Saturday Delphinium

 

After a bit of a break, I’m back today with another stitching Saturday design.  This time it’s some towering delphinium just like I have starting to bloom in my flower beds.  This bluey-purple shade are my favourite!  I loosely followed a pattern I found on the web, using The Stamp Market’s adorable Embroidery Hoop dies.  

The blue cardstock is run through Simon Say’s Stamp’s Pincushion Plate Wafer Die, to coordinate with the holes of the cross stitch die.  Then I added in a frame of green 1/4 inch Quick Strips from The Stamp Market.  

The foiled sentiment is a really pretty one also from The Stamp Market called Best Wishes Foil Plate.  

It makes for a sweet little Summer thank you note!

Stitching Saturday Delphinium

Stitching Saturday - Angles

Hi!  I’m back with another stitching project that was a really easy one.  My hockey team was playing game 7 of the series they were in and I knew I would be anxious and fidgity, so I cut out a basic cross stitching layer (MFT) and took some fun threads to create an angular design that has such a nice effect.  

I started by counting out what type of squares would fit within the pattern, it turned out to be 8 x 8 count  and a single row border between the squares.  I started by taking a lighter tone of each colour square, stitching on the diagonal, then using a darker thread running the opposite direction with just half the triangle.  So, I finished the design in less than the time the hockey game took and even better we won the series.  Next up we’re up 1 game in the Conference Finals before the Stanley Cup Series.  Woo Hoo!

The letters are cut out with coordinating cardstock using and MFT die that has since retired, and a coordinating embossed sentiment.  I like the fun burst of colour!  Perfect for any happy occasion!

Stitching Saturday - Angles

Stitching Saturday - with Spellbinders

 

Hello!  It’s been a while since I’ve done a stitching project, so it was about time I pulled out my floss and a pretty stitching die from Spellbinders and went to work!  This one is called Stitched Hello , and its the perfect size for a quick project and fits just right on an A2 card base.  

The letters are such a nice block style, and have some fun diagnoal texture to them, but its really hard to photograph it in red.  I placed the stitched die onto a pretty Flower Frenzy 3D Embossing Folder to showcase more of the raised pattern of the flowers and leaves, I swiped my white stamp pad over top so the pattern really stands out more.  

Love the graphic quality to the colours, patterns and textures, and it’s a perfect everyday card to send!

Stitching Saturday - with Spellbinders

Stitching Saturday - Spring Flowers

 

Hello!  Popping in late on this Saturday with another stitching card I worked on this week.  It’s not often I stitch a full panel, but this was an easy design to work with!  This seemed to me like a perfect Spring palette to work with.  So, despite that we’ve had snow all day, I’m designing for full on Spring.  

The main stitching die is from MFT, and then I’ve incorporated Rounded and Braided Rectangle Dies from Pinkfresh Studios in Vellum as a base for these pretty die cut flowers from Concord & 9th called Build a Bloom.   Rounded corners throughout the layers mirror the pretty vellum die.  

Then, to finish it off and to coordinate with the bits of metallic silver stitching in the design (vertical stitches), I’ve added some silver foiling with Spellbinders Yana’s Sentiments Hot Foil Plate.

Stitching Saturday - Baby Birdie

 

Hi Everyone! I’ve got a new stitching card today using a number of products from Spellbinders, with a baby theme that is really darling.  I started with Spellbinder's  Stitching Petal Diamond Background and a pretty color palette of floss and then added this adorable Little Chickadee die in coordinating colours to the floss.  

I think this sweet little bird really makes the card shine.  It’s perfect as a baby welcome accent!  The foiled sentiment comes from the Mini Everyday Sentiments Glimmer and it’s layered over a section of vellum to give softness. 

Lots of fun colour to stitch with!

Stitching Saturday - Rosy Glow

Hello, happy Saturday!  It’s been a few weeks since I’ve done any stitching and I was missing it a bit, so I pulled out an old pattern from the web and revamped it a bit for the size of my die.  I have learned that I am not actually a good cross-stitcher, in that I’m terrible at following the pattern 100%!  Either I’m not counting properly (o brother), or I’m improvising something.  Probably not best practises for an actual cross stitching person :)  It still works for me though!  

This pretty rose looks so spring-like in golden tones of apricot and orange!  The sentiment die is my new favourite from Concord & 9th, Short and Sweet Dies. I love it’s petite size and sweet script.  I stacked it in a few layers, and added the vellum background to set it apart from the stitching.  

Such a pretty one, even with my creative improvisation!

Embroidered Bouquet with The Greetery

Hello!  It doesn’t feel like there are enough hours in the day to create does it?  There are seasons where so many ideas are brewing in my head and cute products are sitting on my desk and yet I’m tuckered out from a day of work.  So, though I wanted to check out last night on the couch nursing the head cold I have, I spent a little bit of time pulling this design together with products from The Greetery, and you know what?  I felt better for having done it!  

I started with a colour palette in my head using Concord & 9th’s Carnation, Briar Rose, Ballet Slipper, Lemongrass, Nutmeg and Wheat.  I cut out an assortment of flowers using The Greetery’s  Embroidered Blooms Dies, which haven’t gotten nearly enough love from me.  Each of the flowers and leaves were ink blended with coordinating inks.   

The flowers were arranged on a base cut of Aida Cloth die to tie in that embroidery theme, here you can see what great texture all the elements have.  I’ve also added a foiled sentiment using a pretty rose gold foil with a Spellbinders sentiment set Must Have Sentiments Glimmer Hot Foil.  

It makes for such an interesting texured card.  I love the spashes of colour and how pretty it all ties together.  Now....a nap :)

Stitching Saturday Christmas Joy with Spellbinders

Merry Christmas to all of you!  I have one more card before Christmas tomorrow that celebrates all that I pray for you this season.  JOY!  I picked joy as one of my words this last year, desiring to experience something much deeper than just happiness, something that lasts despite whatever is going on around us.  A deep inner confidence and contentement with what God is up to in my life.   And with all of the difficult circumstances around the world, it’s my heart for you too!  

This pretty card is created with Spellbinders dies including the Christmas Bird Poinsettia dies, and the Stitched Petal Diamond Background.  I stitched the background die with shimmery golden thread and a pretty red, and then created the floral arrangement to coordinate.  The layers of poinsettia petals are ink blended between the layers and I added in some polychromos pencil for details.  

So festive!  Praying that you and yours are full of joy in this season in a way that makes a difference in the world.  Blessings friends!

Stitching Saturday Christmas Joy with Spellbinders

Stitching Saturday: Merry Cardinal

 

Hello, and happy Saturday!  I’m dropping in today with another sweet stitching project, perfect for Christmas.  This design incorporates a few products from Spellbinders,  the Circular Stitched Background, and this adorable little die, Sweet Birdie Etched Die.  

Once I had all the stitching done with a rich evergreen and metallic white, I added holeless sequins for sparkle, and a die cut “merry” sentiment from Concord & 9th’s set Christmas Cloche.  It has the perfect thin script!  I stacked 3 die cuts together and ink blended some soft green ink to the sentiment to help it stand out then gave it sparkle with fine and chunky glitter.  

I used the adorable bird to fashion a red cardinal from the dies, and he’s perched perfectly on the sentiment.  It was a fun project!  Thanks for joining me today!

Stitching Saturday: Merry Cardinal

Stitching Saturday - Argyle Poinsettias

 

A little late in the day for my Saturday Stitching post, but it’s a gorgeous glitzy one for the Christmas Season!  When I was buying embroidery thread I spied these beautiful glimmery threads that needed to be part of my colletion.  For today’s design I created a shimmery gold and green argyle background for this stunning poinsettia from Spellbinders, this is a dreamy one from the De-Light-Ful Christmas Collection called Poinsettia Bloom Etched Die.  

After stitching that argyle pattern onto a cross stitched die from MFT (retired), I cut the poinsettia 3 x, in white, Evergreen (C & 9), and then shimmery gold paper, piecing it all together.  I added a wee little bit of ink blending in soft green to the poinsettia because the petals needed some differentiation from each other, and most poinsettias aren’t pure white.  

The beautiful foiled die is from The Greetery called Opposites Attract Hot Foil.  It all comes together so nicely for a very beautiful and festive Christmas card!

Rustic Fall Florals for Stitching Saturday

 

My husband helped me put all the flowers to bed for the season, and we planted the last of the bulbs for next Spring.  Snow is in the forecast, who knows if it will come, or if it will stay, but it always feels so good to get buttoned up for Fall.  I’ve been working on this rustic card for a few days and finished it up when the yardwork was done.  It’s using a stitching die from Spellbinders called Stitched Card Front, Border and Flower.  

It was nice to get a completely different look using Kraft cardstock for the stitching die, and rich autumn colours in my embroidery floss.  Last time I used this die HERE, I used a much simpler stitch.  This time, I “edged” all the stitching with a simple backstitch.  It really fills in the colours nicely.  

A pretty foiled birthday script from Spellbinders, Yana Sentiments/Foil Basics gives a little shine to the design, as well as a few enamel dots.

Rustic Fall Florals for Stitching Saturday

Stitching Saturday - Toadstool Cuties

 

Hello!  It’s been a minute since I’ve been able to do my regular stitching Saturday post.  Work travel and busy evenings have not given me as much time to get my thread and needle in action.  Plus I decided to do a bigger project with this card.  Who can resist the cutenes of a toadstool!  These Fairy Mushrooms make a great pattern to play with for a card design.  I decided to make up the pattern in my head based on some mushroom pictures I found.  

Some cute layers of grass ground the image, and help with that forest feel.  The sentiment is from Spellbinders Mini Everyday Sentiments foiled with red from the Christmas Sparkle Pack.

Stitching Saturday - Toadstool Cuties

Floral Cross Stitch Hoops

 

Hello!  I’ve just returned from a work trip to the US, and picked up a few goodies while I was away.  Saves me so much in Duty to have it shipped to where I’m staying, so I have all kinds of good things in store for the next few weeks.  I’m starting with this beautiful product suite from The Greetery from July called The Handiwork Collection.  Since my Mom was a seamstress and our daughter is a cross stitcher...and I dabble in both, it has so many lovely elements that combine for great textile themed cards.  

For this design, I used the Hoopla Oval Die, the Rose Tapestry Stencil (dreamy!) and the Aida Texture Plate with some lovely colours to create this pair of hoops.  I love that all the hardware for a hoop is included, and you can see the woodgrain texture on the hoop.  

I also created a background design to match the colours in the stencil with the Floral Sampler Stamp Set,  adding in a layer of vellum between the layers to soften the colours and patterns.  

The gratitude sentiment is stamped and stenciled with The Greetery’s Thankful Heart Stamp and Stencil, making it perfect for a Thanksgiving design.  All of those florals have such a great vintage feel!

Floral Cross Stitch Hoops

Stitching Saturday - Almost Hockey Season

 

Celebrating my brother’s Birthday this weekend and decided to use a card I stitched up this week, where I must have subconsciously used our hockey team’s colours.  This is perfect beacause he’s a big hockey fan.  I used Spellbinder’s Large Stitched Background and made a fun geometric pattern of my own.  

To accent I’ve added some copper in the sequins and foiled sentiment from Spellbinders Mini Everyday Sentiments.  

Just about 5 weeks till hockey season starts!  Hoping for a cup run this year!  Thanks for joining me today!

Stitching Saturday - Almost Hockey Season

Stitching Saturday - Sunset Roses

 

Hello!  Today I’m sharing a new stitching project I worked on last week.  This one is inspired by a pattern I saw on a card from WAY back, but now of course I can’t find it!  I have also learned that sometimes I just improvise on patterns (read I sometimes don’t count properly!).  So, this design uses MFT’s retired bookmark cross stitch dies, and some pretty shades of orange to mimic the Sunrise Roses I have grown.  

The die is a retired TCP die, and the stamped sentiment is from MFT, called Everything Wonderful.  The pierced background uses PinkFresh Studio’s Ornate Medallions, I think the tiny piercings pair well with the cross-stitch pattern.  

It’s finished off by accenting with some coordinating enamel dots.   Happy Saturday to you!
