Snow Bunnies with RAM Stamps

Hello!  I hope you’re doing well on this early New Year!  I’m popping in today with some adorable snow bunnies perfect for Winter!  We were just driving today in our snow covered city and I am grateful to live in a place with four seasons.  Snow is very beautiful, and I don’t even mind the cold, as long as it doesn’t stay too cold for too long.  Today I created with RAM Stamps Christmas Sled.  It’s perfect for the season and showcases winter without being too Christmasy.

I printed the image and coloured it with Copics in a cool Winter palette, then used some of the Snowy Christmas Digital Pattern Paper Pack with the adorable snowmen on it as one of my background layers.  I’ve also added in some snowflakes with a white gel pen and dazzled up the snowflakes in the illustration with glitter pen.  Aren’t they the sweetest looking children?

With a few die cut snowflakes, and some glittery paper it is the cutest snow bunnies you’ve seen yet this year!  Thanks for joining me today!

White on White with Simon Says Stamps

It’s a clean slate for a new year!  Simon Says Stamps has a fun Instagram Challenge to use white on white for your design, so today I played with a little snow!  It seems crazy that we had a brown Christmas here!  Unheard of in all the years I can remember, so honestly I would love to have a snow day!  The peacefulness of it and the hush it brings to the world is so special.

For this design I used numerous snowflake dies that were retired from The Cat’s Pajamas Stamps and layered them over one another with different papers - vellum, cardstock, glitter paper to create a really dimensional flurry of flakes.

The base layer is a beautiful die from Simon Says Stamps called Pincushion Plate.  It creates a beautiful layer of texture for the snowflakes which works perfectly for a white on white card design.

I’ve added foam dots between the layers of snowflakes to give more dimension, and a lovely little foiled sentiment from Spellbinders called Must-Have Sentiments Glimmer Hot Foil plate and die set.   Done with some sparkly foil it is a perfect touch.  The holeless sequins add another layer of sparkle and die into the holes in the background plate.  Such frosty elegance!

Foxy Blue Christmas Cloche with Concord & 9th

It's the week of Christmas! Many of you are probably in the same boat as me, and not quite ready yet, but I’m trying to enjoy the season rather than stress about it.  So, in the theme of calm,  I created a pretty monochromatic scene with Concord & 9th’s gorgeous Christmas Cloche bundle.   All the items included in this die set are just dreamy in miniature form, and then put it under glass?? Amazing.  That sweet petite element to the set is what gave me the idea for the all blues style.  I’ve used Concord & 9th’s beautiful Powder shade of blue, it’s just the softest lightest shade!

I’ve added some sparkle to the garland on the largest tree, and some chunky glitter on the tiny one, as well as stamped snow flakes from the stamp set included.  Isn’t that tiny fox just darling?  The merry sentiment is die cut and stacked 3 x to give it some stability and depth, and I’ve layered all the elements in different depths with foam dots to give it dimension.  I think texture and dimension are key to making a monochromatic card work.

The cardbase is die cut with Concord & 9th’s Basket Weave die to add to the texture.  It evokes the calm of a cool crisp night in the snow.  Thanks for joining me!

I {heart} Snow Days with TCP

Hello!  I’m popping in with some sparkly winter wishes and the newest release from The Cat’s Pajamas!  This one is a cutie called Snow Days.  As you can see he’s ready for the neighbourhood kids with a stockpile of snow balls.  We don’t get many snow days here in Alberta, but when we lived in the midwest we had them often and I remember the delight of a blizzard and a day off with lots of snow antics.

I printed our favourite bunny out on Copic XPress It Blending cardstock, then coloured him up with a few cool grey Copics and some light blues on the snow.  I’ve added some sparkle pen on the snow and some Mica Flakes over clear glue to really amp up the sparkle.

The snowflakes are retired TCP snowflake dies and he’s placed on an embossed card base where I inked up the embossing folder with Distress Ink before running the paper through, which added soft blue colour in the debossed areas.  It really feels like swirling snow on the card.

I added the cutest little bit of red in the enamel heart placed strategically over the sentiment heart.  It’s so cute!

Here’s a peek at this sweet little set in action!  Thanks for joining me today!

Autumn to Winter Cuties with TCP

Hello!  Today I’m bringing you 3 darling cards from September’s Release at The Cat’s Pajamas!  There are some REAL cuties included, perfect for Fall to Winter designs.  First we’ll start with some Autumn fun and the Hoot, Hoot Halloween Digi.  These dressed up littles are pretty adorable.  I combined some of the images from the set with a retired tree die set from TCP to make a perfect Fall scene.

The little bee girl, owl and pumpkins are coloured with Copics, and then I added Copic colouring to the die to show her walking in the forest.  I love the multi-coloured and splattered leaves.   A retired grass die is layered behind the image to give it some colour and depth.

The cute sentiment is from another TCP set, May the Forest Be with You.  TOO cute!  Next up....we’re moving to Winter with a pair of snowmen designs.

I wanted to go a little retro with colour and pattern with these two snowguys called We Three Snowmen.  They’re coloured up with some vibrant colours (who says you have to be red and green for Christmas??), and then trimmed out.

I placed this first snowman on a cardbase stencilled with shimmery embossing paste, and then some cute pennants utilizing another TCP retired Alphabet set.  Those pops of colour really make the card sing.

Now his buddy card....

This little guy boasts the same colour palette, but the background is ink blended through a retired TCP stencil, watered down white acrylic paint is splattered, and I’ve used those same pops of colour and letters to line the side of the card.

I just love these colours together!  A couple of enamel dots add to the retro feel.

Hope you’ve enjoyed this cute preview of September fun at The Cat’s Pajamas!  Here’s a peek at what’s included in these new sets:

From Our Nest to Yours

One of the most common birds found at our bird feeders are Chickadees and I enjoy watching them take shelter from the cold tucked in each day.  This little cutie from Power Poppy called My Little Chickadee is such a fun and easy one to colour up, that its perfect for the latest Blossom Challenge: Clean Slate theme for clean and simple cards. He’s ruffled up and on this winterberry branch ready to sing a song!

I created a mini-slimline design with blocks of colour in patterned paper that coordinated with the colours I used with Copics.

Some soft pointillism dotted blue-grey background is a soft touch, and the accents are simple die cut branches from The Greetery which I added mica flakes to, to simulate sparkly icy snow.

You get a sense of the sparkle on this view, it’s really shimmery in real life!

I hope you can join us for The Blossom Challenge:  Clean Slate HERE!

Snowy Hills and Dales

It was a good productive week for our Christmas preparations and I’m also happy to be bringing you another Christmas or Winter design today!  When I saw The Greetery’s release in September with the wonderful Countryside and Rolling Hills dies and Stencils, I knew they could be versatile for Spring, Summer and Fall, but I thought I’d also experiment with how they’d look for winter!

I began by sponging the night sky background with Distress Oxide Ink (Tumbled Glass, Stormy Sky, Unchartered Mariner and Grey), also adding some splatters of watered down white acrylic paint.

Next, I used the cutting dies for the rolling hills in white, and sponged some Tumbled Glass onto the hills for a light shadowed touch.

I added some glitter to the snow, also using the stencil and embossing powder.  Its especially shimmery!

Then I die cut and sponged the evergreen trees (Mowed Lawn and Rustic Wilderness), and splattered them with watered down white acrylic paint, and placed them on the scene.

The little house and fence are also die cut then sponged and splattered.  The sentiment is from The Greetery’s stamp set Print Shop:  Spring Mix Stamp, which I also did a little sponging on to deliniate it from the hills.

It’s so peaceful and serene, and it stretches the dies for a whole other season!

Christmas Remix: Season of Serenity

We’re back with Power Poppy’s Christmas Remix and today we’re showcasing a gorgeous new image that celebrates that cold frosty glow!  Its called Season of Serenity.

Tranquility and peace surrounded by nature, isn't that one of life's greatest pleasures? I’ve tried to capture the essence of serenity in this oval scene of snowy evergreens and mountain caps, accented by a sweet bird in holly in the foreground. (Is it a cardinal? A blue jay? Color it however you'd like to match your color scheme.) Sentiments are framed perfectly by the snowy oval. OR - use the secondary focal image of the bird in holly branches with any of the sentiments. What a versatile digital set! You could even print these out to use as gift tags, just add your own "TO" and "FROM". Images included in black and light grey for no-line coloring.

Such a beauty isn’t it? It really captures that crisp cold quiet of winter.  I’ve given the scene colouring with Copics, and that beautifully little bird became a bluejay.  We don’t get cardinals up here like Marcy does in St. Louis, but we regularly see blue jays.  After colouring, I trimmed the scene out carefully, then placed it on a frame of bright blue, backed by an embossed layer of snowflakes making sure to keep that crisp white.

This scene really reminds me of Lake Louise here in Alberta.  It is the most beautiful turquoise lake that is completely surrounded by majestic mountains and forest.  In the winter the lake freezes over and you can skate on the ice and they have on occasion, had an ice castle built.  It is stunning.  This picture is before the lake totally freezes over.  Just look it up and you’ll be blown away, it just looks too beautiful to be real...and in real life the photos don’t do it justice.

I gave the “lake” some reflection of the mountains and coloured up the sky to have a deepening blue to purple, almost like an Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights dancing in the night sky, which we often see in the winter here.

I’m just loving that jay!  I really appreciate that Marcy included the bird and greenery as a separate image for this set too.

I added glittery pen to the snow and the moon, but it’s always so hard to photograph so you can see it, but you might see some of it on the left side.  A touch of glittery ribbon and die cut snowflakes accent the card.

Pop on over to see what the rest of the Bloom Brigade and Instant Gardeners have to show off today with Season of Serenity.

Hi, Mr. Snowman!

Even as I’m typing this today,  the snow is gently falling outside my window.  It’s definitely a day for tucking in a being cozy.  I have a sweet little snowman to show you from Power Poppy’s new set,  Snow Kissed.  It’s such a cute combination of sweet images and Scandinavian prints you can put together to really jazz up your cards.

I wanted him to have that warm cozy feel too, so I chose some warm grays to colour him up with and then added a layer of Kraft Cardstock with the patterns stamped in white and red in the background.

I also added the prints to the sentiment banner (though the red heart is harder to see).  I snuck in a little die cut flower behind the sentiment that gives the feeling of an intricate snowflake and then finished it off with some twine and enamel dots.

The inside is stamped too, and here’s the Copics I used for colouring.

Chill Snow-Dude

Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends.  I hope you’ve been able to celebrate with loved ones, and gratitude is dwelling in your heart this week.

We’ve got some awesome news today from Power Poppy!  This new digital stamp set from Marcy is available for just $1 until Monday!  Plus there’s a huge sale going on as well.

I think I spoke too soon the other day when I said we only had a dusting of snow, now we have about 20 + cm or about 8 inches!  So, this little snow dude is right at home :)  He is one of my all-time favourite snowmen.  He has the perfect blend of chubbyness, whimsical expression and fashionable snow-wear, plus you throw on some berry-fied arms, a sweet bird, and he’s just irresistible!  Marcy also included a snowflake background in the set that’s super sweet too.   The set is called Let’s Chill.

I paired him with this Echo Park - The Story of Christmas paper that has a great combination of swirly designs, woodgrain and rich green.

In this shot you can see that I sparklified all the puddles of extra snow with a Wink of Stella pen, and I also coloured in the wood button in the same Copic colours as his buttons in the illustration.  The swirly border is from TCP.

Here are the Copics I used to give him life.  And here’s the fun news for you....the big, fantastic, awesome SALE on all things Power Poppy and Let’s Chill on sale!

We have a lovely assortment of the Instant Gardener Team and the Bloom Brigade showing off Mr. Let’s Chill and you won’t want to miss it!  Pop on by the Power Poppy Blog to find out who’s playing along!

Snow Globe

I’m back today with another very fun Sneaky Peek set from The Cat’s Pajamas called Snowman Accessory Pack....it’s a companion set to yesterday’s very adorable Build Your Own Snowman that celebrates those very fun snow globes you can shake any time of the year, in any climate and see a swirly snow scene.  Who hasn’t had fun with those right?

My card has a bit of an unusual fold style, I’m not even sure what I’d call it, but the front is cut away so that the snowglobe folds open.  I used the Slhouette cut files Alma will have available for this set to form the snow globe, then I stamped the outline of the snow globe and glued acetate behind the snow globe frame.  I stamped some of the mini snowflakes from the set in white ink onto the acetate. It’s all very swirly feeling!

Next I formed the hill out of the He Said, She Said CutUps die, and the placed the snow man on the hill and the snow globe over top.

Here you can see that it’s got a cute little inside fold that holds the card front open and also has the sentiment.  From this angle you can see the snowflakes stamped onto the acetate.  There is space to write inside the card behind the snow globe or on the back of the card as well.

On the patterned paper layer I added a snowflake with the Double Snowflake CutUps die, and some pretty rhinestone accents.  A little strip of glittered ScorTape finishes off the front.

Here’s how this cute set looks.
