Inky Blossoms with Alex Syberia

Hello!  I hope you’ve had a great day today!  Do you ever rediscover a technique after not using it for a while?  The most recent Instagram Challenge at Simon Says Stamp is ink blending, and I’d forgotten how wonderful it is for adding colour blends, especially with emboss resist!  

I started this lovely design with Alex Syberia’s digital stamp Full Bloom (from May 2020).  Coloured up the blooms with Copics and coloured pencils.  

 

Next, I tooks the background stamp from Simon Says Stamps called Lace Heart Kaleidoscope embossed it in white and then used ink shades that coordinated with the colouring to create an ombre background.  I love the pops of colour and blends between the colours, and it makes such a nice background for the card.  I also cut a few Big Branches: Ruscus Die from The Greetery onto white cardstock to ink blend as accents.  The leaves coordinate well with the stamped design.  

I also foiled a pretty sentiment onto vellum from Spellbinders Slimline Confetti Background doing some fussy cutting to trim it out.

Inky Blossoms with Alex Syberia

Alex Syberia Designs - Dreamy Florals

Sometimes you’re just in the mood to colour something really beautiful, and for me I always lean toward florals.  So, I picked up a few images from Alex Syberia Designs in her digi files, this one called Just Wonderful Floral Slimline.  Those petals and that sweet little bird stole my heart!  They have a November Colour challenge on the blog with a bluey-purple to green palette, so though this design isn’t Christmasy (maybe in the tropics!), the colours work perfectly for the card.  

I pulled out my Copics, worked with light blues to purples and then added some fun greens, and then that contrasting pop of orangey-yellow for that adorable bird.  After colouring with Copics, I pulled out my Prismacolor Pencils and added in some details to pull some of the colours together better and deepen the contrast between the petals so they pop from each other.  This was a really lovely one to spend time on.  

The card base is ink blended to coordinate with the colours on the flowers and tie it all together.  

The foiled sentiment is from Spellbinders, Yana’s Sentiments Glimmer.  I think I want to get more in this style because I use them so often.  They are just the right size to add to a card, and the scripty style is so pretty.

Alex Syberia Designs - Dreamy Florals

Guys with Grills and Masks

Welcome Friends!  Were having some fun today with masculine ideas using the June Release from The Cat’s Pajamas!  We’re kicking it off with our favourite Bunny doing some grilling for the celebration picnic!  This is using the new Flippin’ Awesome digi image.  I arranged some of the elements of the set to create a scene and die cut it out and coloured the image with Copics.  I placed it on festive buffalo plaid piece of designer paper that gives you that picnic vibe and added a green banner that was sponged with a stencil to match the green grill.  

For accent I added some wood veneer stars, two little bits of folded ribbon to tie in the gingham and the black of his bunny nose, and it made a great Father’s Day Card for my husband.  

Next up, we have a man in a mask!  This cutie raccoon from the new set Critter Camp is a bandit bringing gifts!  I coloured up this birthday guest with Copics and trimmed him out so I could add the pieces in layers and pop some of the elements up.  I added some die cut stars to coordinate with the stars on his party hat, and matched the balloons and gift with the plaid designer paper.  

A bit of twine accents the tag and the background has some swiss dot embossing.  Perfect for a masculine birthday.

Guys with Grills and Masks

Spring into TCP this April!

Hello out there!  I’ve been a little absent from creating the last month because of work trips.  My first trips out of Canada in 3 years!  And then not just one trip but three trips in a row, so there’s not been much time for anything else.  But today I’m joining in with NEW Release items from The Cat’s Pajamas for April, and they’re so fun and uplifting!  

I’m bringing you two designs today, beginning with this dreamy one called Catch my Drift.  The balloons were such fun to colour in this vibrant colour palette.  All the colouring is done with Copics and I’ve trimmed the design out to pop up on this great stencil sponged sky and cloud background.  

I’ve accented the mini-slimline design with some of TCP’s new Black and White Spring Digi Papers, some twine and the fun patterned swirlys from the new Summer Borders Digi SVG’s.    I’ve also used the Summer Borders to create the sentiment clouds (just trimming out a portion of them to fit the card design.  A few iridescent holeless sequins accent and add some sparkle.  

Next up we have a sweet woodland design that was really fun to create.  

This showcases the new set called Into the Woods.  I created a little scene with some of the Copic coloured elements from the set, placing the woodland cuties on a woodgrain heart.  I was in need of some more Birthday designs so I used a sentiment from an older TCP set that had a nice curvy shape.  

I’ve accented the design with cut greenery using the new Button Flower Digi SVG. Tucked behind the main scene they add to that fun forest feel against the pretty woodland patterned paper (Melissa Lowry).  They’re such cuties!

Spring into TCP this April!

Easter Celebrations at The Cat’s Pajamas- Take 2

Greetings friends!  I’m back with NEW March inspiration from The Cat’s Pajamas!  Part one of my designs this month is located HERE.  Today its all about Easter!  One of the most beautiful times of the year for my faith, and also a beautiful time to celebrate life, growth and hope.  I have two cards to show you today, one more playful and one more elegant.  This card uses the new Sugar, Sugar Digi.  

Just today my husband bought a huge bag of Cadbury Mini Eggs.  Oh my heart.  He needs to hide them because I LOVE that candy coated chocolate!  So, this card speaks my language about Easter chocolate.    Our favourite bunny is lounging in the Easter basket after a sugar coma of chocolate coated fun.  

Colouring is with Copics, with detail added in with Prismacolor Pencils, like the blades of grass, the texture of the basket and the sky on the tag.  The main image is printed on Copic XPress it Blending and cut with a retired tag die from TCP.  The background is sponged with Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide Ink.  

Other cool things on the design are new from TCP including the Grassy Patches Cutables and the Happy Spring digital patterned paper, it makes for such a fun spring card!  

Next up is a lovely Easter card with the new FREE Digital Download called Fancy Happy Easter.  The script and designs in the set are lovely!  I coloured the image with Copics and added in backgrounds and detailing with Prismacolor Pencils.  The mini-slimline design also uses our new Happy Spring Digi Papers,  tiny flowers cut to accent and holeless sequin accents.  

The pops of colour add such Spring freshness to the design.

Easter Celebrations at The Cat’s Pajamas- Take 2

Peace, Love and 60’s Tassels

 

Sometimes you’ve just gotta get in the GROOVE!  I found this adorable little girl from Mo’s Digital Pencil called Berkeley  in my coloured up stash and thought she’d be fun to give some 60’s Peace and Love treatment.  She’s off to school with her tassled backpack and patches on her frayed jeans.  She’s such a cutie!  I’m also trying to do more varieties in my skin tones to represent more of the beautiful colours of the world and she was delightful to colour with my Copics.  

To coordinate with her vibe, I added cut paper “tassels" to the right edge of the colour-blocked patterned paper.  It’s easy to do with little paper snips.  And then I added felt flower accents to match her patches.  For the sentiment I stamped the blue-jean tab with a canvas stamp and then added the birthday sentiment (from Stampin’ Up!) for fun.  I think she’s very groovy :)

Peace, Love and 60’s Tassels

Tomato Pincushion Love

Interested in a little more love-themed card making?   I created this design with another of my images in my Colouring Catch-Up Challenge that I had in my stash.  It’s a sweet image from the now closed Paper Smooches store.  

My mom was a seamstress for so many years.  She made the most beautiful garments for us, and in the same way that I have craft supplies, she had sewing supplies.  So, this image reminds me of her handiwork and the fun tomato pincushions that held pins on top as she was sewing, and the boxes and jars of buttons.  

I created the backgrounds on this mini-slimline design with a mini-heart stencil (MFT), and added some fun accent papers from MFT as well, and finished it off with a bit of scalloped lace ribbon, reminiscent of Mom’s sewing supplies.  The sentiment is from an old Stampin’ Up! set that sweetens the deal with a tiny wood veneer heart that’s been smooshed in ink.

Tomato Pincushion Love

January Brings New TCP Love!

 

Happy 2022 Creators!  I’m kicking off the New Year with some brand new fun from The Cat’s Pajamas!  This month its all about love, and there’s no better occasion for card making than telling someone you love them.  

I created two designs to show you today and am starting with a SWEET one that has a retro feel.  It’s using the new TCP digi called Bee My Honey.  Isn’t he adorable??  I’ve combined a number of the images included in this set into one design by adding the honey pot behind our sweet bear, shrinking the little bee with heart-wings to fit the size of the honey pot and tucking in the sentiment along the bottom.  

All the colouring is done with Copics (shown below).  Seriously, look at that cute BEE!  

To make the honey theme sing, I used some shimmering molding paste in a honeycomb stencil, and then once it was fully dry, I sponged Peanut Brittle Distress ink overtop to really give it the feeling of honey in a comb, and the glimmer is a really nice effect.

Card Number Two!

Next up its a mini-slimline design with these loveable sheep in the set Ewe Complete Me . I just adore these CUTE lambs holding hand/hooves!  I wanted to make them black and fluffy so I let my Copics make lots of swirly lines to mimic thick wool.  

To accent the design I added some of our new Hearts Cutables in a great peachy tone, accented with a black pearl.  The designer paper mimics the swirly notes in the sheep wool and also the little flower.

January Brings New TCP Love!

Spring Bliss Bunnies

Hello friends.  I’m popping in with a cute pair of cards from The Cat’s Pajamas April Digital Release!  Have you heard TCP is going digital?  There will be a constant supply of adorable designs to play with.  And it also means a big SALE going on too.  More on that at the end of the post.  

Today’s designs showcase some cute little bunnies enjoying Spring.  I think the paper kind of bunnies are adorable, not so much in my garden.  For this first design I’m using the new Bliss Digi which speaks to my book lover heart.  This little dude is perched on a stack of books with a warm cup of coffee an enjoying some reading time.  I had the perfect patterned paper to match where I wanted to go with this card from Echo Park called Coffee and Friends.  I thought this sheet of patterned cups would be a great pairing to the design.  

I’ve coloured the image with Copics to match the tones in the paper.  

You can also see that I coloured some flower designs to the coffee cup on the book stack to match the designer paper, and then also added some flowered patterned paper on this great TCP cup and saucer die called  Coffee Clatch CutUps Die.  Doesn’t it make a great accent for the design?  

Just a couple of enamel dots accent the card for fun.  

For the next card I’m playing with another new bunny digi called Flutter By.  

Here our favourite big eared bunny is frolicking in the grass hunting butterflies.  It’s a great little design to pop a note to a friend.  

Colouring is done with Copics in some blue green and peach shades.  

For the background, I used an awesome TCP Stencil, Succulent, and Distress Oxide Ink Evergreen Bough, and SU’s Blush Blossom with my stencil brushes to add the right tones of colour in the background.  To anchor the scene I added TCP’s Grass Die that I love so much, as well as a bit of stitched grossgrain ribbon underneath to tie in the colours.  

I’ve completed the design with Iridescent Holeless sequins from the TCP store that add a bit of sparkle.
