Peace, Love and 60’s Tassels

 

Sometimes you’ve just gotta get in the GROOVE!  I found this adorable little girl from Mo’s Digital Pencil called Berkeley  in my coloured up stash and thought she’d be fun to give some 60’s Peace and Love treatment.  She’s off to school with her tassled backpack and patches on her frayed jeans.  She’s such a cutie!  I’m also trying to do more varieties in my skin tones to represent more of the beautiful colours of the world and she was delightful to colour with my Copics.  

To coordinate with her vibe, I added cut paper “tassels" to the right edge of the colour-blocked patterned paper.  It’s easy to do with little paper snips.  And then I added felt flower accents to match her patches.  For the sentiment I stamped the blue-jean tab with a canvas stamp and then added the birthday sentiment (from Stampin’ Up!) for fun.  I think she’s very groovy :)

School Boy Birthday

 

I’ve been pulling out some older images and playing around with them, and I found this handsome little dude from Mo Manning called Yale that I knew would make a great Birthday card to have in my stash. I paired him with some new patterned paper (I just can’t help myself) from Echo Park called Hello Baby.  

He’s coloured up with Copics, and I lifted some of the “jeans” with Copic Blending Solution and the hem of an old pair of my husband’s jeans to give it some texture.  I’ve also added texture to the card by using a plaid embossing folder on the bottom half of the design to match the plaid I coloured into his collared shirt.  

Just a sweet little wood veneer heart to accent.  Here are the Copics I used below.

School Boy Birthday

Ginger Baby

One of my former HS students from youth ministry,  now wife of one of our co-workers is having a baby any time in the next few weeks, and we celebrated last weekend with a baby shower.  It’s always so delightful to celebrate babies.  They know they’re having a girl, so it was easy to personalize this card for them.  I’m thinking that with the combination of their two genes they might have a little ginger haired girl, so I pulled out this sweet little digi image from Mo Manning, aptly called Baby Shower, making her a bit of a ginger-haired blondie.  I thought it would work perfectly for her.  

All coloured up with Copics.  Oh just look how cute her chubby little baby belly is!  Of course I had to add designer paper ruffles along the top to match her ruffly diaper cover.  

A little bit of striped grossgrain ribbon, and some pretty cupped flower sequins finish it off, with the addition of a sentiment from an older PaperTrey Ink set.

Ginger Baby

Diamond Snow

We live in Northern Canada, not Arctic north, but north none the less, each winter we get cold temperatures, for a long stretch, and we get snow.  Some years an abundance of snow, some years not so much. There are many times I have said to my husband  - especially when it gets really cold, “why do we live here again??”.  Escaping to a southern climate often sounds very desirable.   However,  the other night as my husband and I were walking through the newly fallen snow we were both so overcome by how beautiful the snow sparkled.  If you’ve never seen it - it really is like millions of diamonds at your feet.  The simplicity and beauty of those moments make the cold and the change of seasons we see here worth it.  So, though I love your climate southern friends....I do love appreciating moments like this here.

I thought today I’d show you a card that tries to capture that feeling of diamond snow.

This is a pretty digi by Mo Manning called Fairy Snowman, it was a freebie a few weeks ago and I thought that the snowman in touque and fairy wings was pretty adorable.  I coloured it with some cool copics and paired it with this pretty paper pad from Bo Bunny - Candy Cane.  I added a curved A2 Border with a Spellbinders Die and then added lots of elements of sparkle, silver Candi, rhinestones, and sequins.  

Here you can also see that I added sparkle with my glitter pen and a little organdy bow in teal.

Diamond Snow

I’m a Calendar Girl...

Earlier this year CardMaker asked me to be a Calendar girl!  :)  I’m Miss March (LOL!).  I had the opportunity to create for this 2015 Calendar promotion for the magazine and it’s now out in beautiful glossy colour.  Now I have an extra one to give away...

It’s a beautiful publication with 12 original artist’s designs AND full instructions and fabulous quotes included.

I’m a Calendar Girl...

She's Fourteen

As I said yesterday, fourteen years (and 1/2 a day) ago I gave birth to our firstborn....she was this tiny little thing, who's now as tall as I am.   The years have passed so quickly.  She is a delight.  She's already a talented musician, playing the piano and flute, she's got this amazing brain and does incredibly well in school, and she works hard at it, and she's a voracious reader.  But those are just some of the things she does.  I love who she IS.  She's beautifully loyal, tender-hearted, responsive to others, fantastic with little ones, and it's fun to just spend time with her and to talk.  She loves God and lives out her beliefs.  She's such a blessing to us.

So for our vibrant 14 year old, I made a vibrant fun-loving card that reminds me a little of her.  A bit of a dreamer....colorful, artistic, with a book set out in front of her, purple fingernails and toenails, big blue eyes, though probably not wearing pig-tails anymore :)    Happy Birthday Sweetheart!

This is another of Mo Manning's images called Between, and I've colored with Prismacolors in vibrant shades that sort of match a teens' style.  The papers are Prisma - both Annalee and Fairy Flora, and I've used tons of Basic Grey Olivia buttons, some sewing and this fun little doo-dad called the Scor Bug to add the scored dots along the edges.

Seriously I'm having so much fun with my Prismacolors :)

Here's a picture of our trio before school on her b-day....ok our middle son is doing some sort of goofy rabbit tooth smile but hey...this gives you the idea of what our kids are sometimes like!

She's Fourteen

Small Wonder

Good Monday Morning everyone!

I have a first from me today....my first Digital Image!  Like many of you I really love Mo Manning's work and have resisted till a few weeks ago.  I still like the process of stamping.  You could never take that away from me, but images like Mo's to color are just fantastic, and the colorist in me won out :)  Is this not the sweetest image?  I believe it's called John Praying.  It's just like my little blonde boys in their jammies, and that cute little teddy bear!

A goal of mine in the next few months is to practice and perfect my technique a little more with Prismacolor Pencils and OMS for blending.  I use the pencils often but the process of blending with OMS I'm still working on.  So this sweet boy praying was one of my practise sessions.  We have a nice little art supply store near work/church and I went in there to get a few more Prismacolor pencils to fill out my collection (which happened to be on sale, score!) and bought a couple more blending stumps.  A different brand this time.  I wasn't getting the movement I'd like with the other stumps.

But I think I'm catching on to the blending a bit more and how the colors move, because I'm so happy with how this turned out!  It's my favourite coloring I've done so far with these pencils!  I also added some color to the beaded edges and blended it as well to tie it into the main image.  For accent I've added Baker's Twine around the beaded edges and some gold nailhead stickers and sewing.  The sentiment is SU's Whimsical Words, I thought it suited the design perfectly.  The wonder kids have when they come to God in their prayers, and their sweet small innocence, and how He must look on them with such complete adoration, and then to realize that He loves us ALL that way!  Good news :)

Just a last personal note.  My husband's Dad is in the hospital, it's very likely he had another stroke.  He's had several mini ones in the past 18 months, so we're waiting to hear the MRI results today.  It's hard when you're so far away from family, we're about 16 hours away of driving.  Anyway, we'd appreciate your prayers.  Blessings friends.
