The Creative Process - Cool Tools

Hello Everyone!  It's a gorgeous day in my little corner of the world.  It's going to be hot today, and the birds are very chatty this morning.  We had a good and busy Father's Day weekend, four Ball Hockey games for the boys, time with my family on Sunday, and a birthday party thrown in there.

Today for the Creative Process I thought I'd show you some of my Go-To tools I use each time I create, so they are definitely some of my favourites, and also how I organize one of them.  We're all looking for ideas that will work for us on organization right?

This is the Bow Easy Tool.  Now that I have it, and use it on every bow I make, I can't believe I waited this long to get it.  And I'm almost embarrased at the bows I used to make.  It is the COOLEST little tool and gives me perfect bows every time, with the tails behind, not needing any fussing or rearranging.  The only draw back is that you have to attach to your card with a stitch or glue dots, you can't tie the bow directly onto your card because you are making it on the Bow Easy.  But that doesn't bother me at all, having perfect bows is SO worth it!  I purchased mine from Sharon Johnson at her Stamp Simply Ribbon Store, and Our Daily Bread Designs sells it as well.  Nifty, portable, inexpensive and worth every penny, 4 Stars from me!

It should be no surprise that this is one of my favourite tools.  When SU came out with the Big Shot I debated long and hard about getting it.  It is a pricier tool and for me to spend that much money on something I had better use it.  Truth is, I use it every day I craft.  For me it was well worth the money I invested.  For cutting shapes with Sizzix Dies, Spellbinders or adding texture with embossing plates and folders this will do the trick for you with ease.  Fabric, felt, paper, cork, metal....anything you can imagine it will cut.  I had to laugh after I was cropping this picture, see the front leg of the Big Shot?  I left a little piece of tape there.  Often when I'm placing Spellbinders dies in the right spot to cut an image I've already colored, I'll use a little tab of tape.  I forgot I had that one there!  So....Big Shot, easy to use, generally portable (it's really not much to cart around), can multi-task use, FUN, an investment but worth it.  4 Stars again from me.

And now ....what little goodie is in this non-descript black binder?

My Spellbinders Dies.  Let's have a brief pause for these beautiful items.....

There are other dies other there, but not with the function and flexibility of Spellbinders.  If you are a paper crafter, in my opinion, these are the dies to invest in.  There is such an amazing range of style and shape, you have the beauty of being able to see where you will place your die (and see through the die), they come in graduated sizes perfect for layering, or just the flexibility in finding the right size for your project, you can cut and emboss with them AND use the dies as a template for sponging....alright want to see the inside?

This is how I store all of my dies.  I saw this type of system on someone's blog a LONG time ago, and I wish I could remember who it was.  I don't have a permanent crafting place, so whatever I have needs to be portable and such that I can pull it out and put it away.  This binder is perfect for storing my dies.  I purchased these photo sleeves at a photo store, the top sleeve is for 4 x 6 photos and the bottom one would fit 5 x 7's.  In each section I cut a piece of white cardboard to size (the backs of old SU 12 x 12 paper packs), label each square with the die I'm going to use it for, and then cut sticky magnet strip for my dies to attach to (I purchased the magnet roll strip at Michaels).

I also cut up the picture side of the packaging from the Spellbinders Dies to put in each section behind the die square (this gives each sleeve some firmness so I can flip the pages better).  Then I use labels from the photo sheets and label each section (to the right beside the binder rings).  This way when I have tons of dies out on my table I always know where they go back to.

Here you can see the square pulled out and the dies on the magnet.

And above, here are my dies loose.  I love how the magnet holds everything together.

And it still works perfect for Borderabilities and smaller sizes too.  Because of the magnet, nothing slips away, and the sleeves hold it all in.

I arrange my Spellbinders in order, Labels First, Shapes next (ovals, squares etc), then Borderabilities, and Shaped accents.

It's been such a smart system for me.  But as you can see, I'm out of space in this binder, and will need to start a second.  I'm blessed to have a lot of dies. Flourishes is my source for all my dies too, in case you're wondering.  Without a doubt 4 Stars from me :)

Thanks for popping by today, I'll have more creative things this week!

Sueded Snowflakes

So how do you like my new Blog Digs?  My little cyber-home has undergone a makeover!   What do you think??? I'm so happy with it!  I've been wanting a new design for some time but really didn't know what I wanted or where to start.  Enter my very kind friend Julie Koerber and viola!  She's a master at this!  I'm so very grateful to her for all her wonderful talent and ability.  {{{Julie}}}  You are such a blessing to me!

The little brown truck arrived late this afternoon, always a fun sight!  He almost gave me someone elses box too - woo hoo that would have been fun!  But I restrained myself and told him only one was mine.

It's like 30 degrees celcius right now (somewhere in the 90's F), so the thought of snow is way far away, but if you use your imagination, you can picture the snow falling.
I love the idea of sueded snowflakes so I combined Soft Suede, Confetti Cream, Kraft and the new Christmas Cocoa specialty paper from the Holiday Mini and this gorgeous Serene Snowflakes set together.   The snowflakes are stamped in Craft Vanilla, and Soft Suede and sponged heavily on the edges with Soft Suede.
I created a snowflake medallion by stamping the largest snowflake 3 x once in Craft Vanilla and once in Soft Suede on Soft Suede paper, then cut them out and added them together slightly off center, and added the 3rd layer with a Build a Brad.  Just yummy!
Can you see this gorgeous embossing folder?  OY!   It's the new Petals a Plenty and WOW does it impress beautifully.  I sponged Craft ink over top lightly to give it even more definition.  It even has the feeling of suede!

Recipe:  Stamps:  Serene Snowflakes, Berry Christmas;  Ink:  Soft Suede, Vanilla Craft;  Paper:  Confetti Cream, Soft Suede, Kraft, Christmas Cocoa Specialty Paper;  Accessories:  Sponge, Vintage Brads, Dimensionals, Big Shot, Petals a Plenty Embossing Folder, Build a Brad, Kraft Taffeta Ribbon, Modern Label Punch

For All You Do Class

Last week I went to a class with my upline Susan. She taught some of her downline projects that they did on the Cruise/Hawaii (I believe). I loved them from the moment she first showed them to us, and I'd really like to teach a class using these projects this fall sometime.

So, if you went to Hawaii with Stampin' Up! you'll have seen these already. If not...enjoy the projects! :)
It all begins with the most awesome part to me :) A special tote. I call it the C Tote. C for Christine, C for Create, C for Coupons....whatever you'd like! (of course you COULD use another letter...wink!)
The tote is made with On Board Book Basics, Textured paper, and DSP. The set is the very pretty For all You Do.

What I love MOST about this Tote is the accordian fold pockets inside. Here's a closer look at all the parts:
Closeup of front shows the detail of the cut flowers, the Bigz Serif Letter as well as the butterfly trail with the piercer, as well as the clasp with the Flower Designer Brad.

Next you can see the side accordian fold up close:
And the top view of the pocket sections.

Awesome hey? We also made 3 cards with the tote. So here they are:

This one I called a Stepped Accordian Fold Card. Sort of the same feel as the tote.

Here it is open, I totally messed up my sentiments along the way, so I had to do some creativity embellishing to *cover* my spots. :) But actually I like how it looks like that. I'm just not a good "in public" stamper! LOL! I need the quiet of my own table at home to stamp well. Anyway....what's pretty about this card that you can't see is the white textured paper. It looks so good with the solid stamps.

This second card might be my favourite, so simple, but great color scheme and details. Rock and Roll and stamp kissing on this one.

And last the little 3 x 3 card I thought was adorable, using stamp kissing as well. Isn't it cute? Love the textured paper. I need to get more of that!

Oy did I sunburn this weekend. Like ouch pain! It's all my fault too. Friday afternoon we went to our friends house where they have a large in-ground pool. It was so fu , but I burned, I thought about putting on the sunscreen, but didn't, just because I didn't want it to get in the pool. Not very smart :( Thankfully the kids didn't burn. But I have a rosy nose, and a front and back that are tttttender!

Thanks for popping over!

Hello

Well, we've still got some chaos going on here right now. I'm squeezed in my livingroom between all the kickplates and my countertop and trying to type sitting diagonally...

But I DO have something pretty to show you today in the midst of the kitchen renos.

While we were in the US I managed to finally get some PaperTrey Ink Stamps that I've been craving. Ever since I saw Debbie Olson use this gorgeous flower I was hooked! I colored the images while I was on vacation, so I put something quick together this morning for the Sketch Challenge on SCS.
I colored this gorgeous flower with my Copic collections from Flourishes (Tea Rose and Evergreen) (which is out of stock right now but will be in shortly). I carefully trimmed out the flower and leaf.
I stamped a background on the middle panel with the smaller flower from the set in Vanilla Craft. And I used my Deckled Rectangles to achieve the pretty edges on the card.
Chat with you soon!

Under the Big Top

New rubbah again! Today's color challenge (Baja Breeze, Ruby Red, Whisper White) worked well for me as I needed a birthday card for our youngest's son's friend's birthday this weekend.

This is a new set called Animal Stories. I thought the colors gave it a circus feel, so I tried to recreate that feeling.

The elephant and the owl are popped up (OK, I realize there are not owls in a circus, but work with me here :) ) I embossed the owl on DSP in White Craft ink and White embossing powder. I also embossed the greeting.
I gave it a little whimsy with the Paisley textured background. To create the tent topper all I did was measure the width of my focal image (about 3 1/8 I think), then cut a piece of cardstock about 3 1/8 x 2 inches. I used the scallop punch on the edge, then scored 3/4 and 1 inch. This makes your folds and you have a large enough section to tuck behind and adhere. White gel pen gives you the stripes.

Hope you have a great joy filled day today!

All New SU!

That's always fun to say isn't it?

My sneak peek SU box came just the other day. Last night I had a chance to dig in! Here's a first creation:
I stamped the pheasant (beautiful stamp I think) twice in Rich Razzleberry and then in Soft Suede ink on Confetti Cream paper (seriously I LOVE Confetti Cream - I don't know why it took me 5 years to find this paper in the catalogue - it's the perfect deeper cream!) Then I cut out the head and added the wing in Soft Suede popped up. The wheat stamp is added on Kraft. I used the new polka-dot grosgrain in Razzleberry (just used it reversed on the non-dotted side).
I also used the new Modern Label punch for the sentiment. It's a great sized punch.

So far I LOVE the new In Colors, they are deeply saturated, which of course I love. So far I've only used these two, and I think Razzleberry is FANTASTIC! The Soft Suede is reminscent of True Thyme - just more of a neutral, less green. It will work really well. I'm also crazy about Bermuda Bay, looking forward to using that later this week.

Big plus...Markers in the new In Colors. Woo hoo!

Alright - my little guy has the day off of school today (yes we're still in school up here...till the end of the month)...so we're heading to the Library this morning...thanks for dropping by!

Recipe: Stamps: Autumn Days, Sweet Little Sentiments; Ink: Rich Razzleberry, Soft Suede; Paper: Rich Razzleberry, Soft Suede, Confetti Cream, Kraft; Accessories: Big Shot, Top Note Die, Kraft Corduroy Brads, Polka-dot Ribbon (Razzleberry), Linen Thread, Dimensionals, Corner Rounder Punch.

An Amazing Hurrah

Ok, somebody take my temperature! This is two Clean and Simple cards in one week! This is Amazing! So unlike me. But today's color challenge was to use an all white card base with one color as accent. One layer. GASP!

So I decided to pull out Pretty Amazing another set on the Last Chance list.... There are some really pretty stamps in this set. I really love the branch stamp but decided to use the flowers and a little Rock and Roll for this one.

I inked the flowers in Baja Breeze and then rolled some of the edges in Pacific Point, masking the bottom half of the card off. After I liked the look of the flowers, I ran the bottom half of the card through my Big Shot with the large Dotted Texturz plate. A pretty Baja Satin bow in the middle keeps your layers defined. I also added a row of punched scallops along the bottom layer.

But then I looked at it and it still needed something...I think that's what's hard for me about CAS cards. What do you add? How does it stay clean and simple and still be interesting? So I got out my Crystal Effects and my Dazzling Diamonds and gave it sparkle and texture. A sure fire way to add interest without becoming too complex.

Alrighty! Back tomorrow with one of my favourite times of the month...sneak peeks of new releases :)

Recipe: Stamps: Pretty Amazing; Ink: Baja Breeze, Pacific Point; Paper: Whisper White; Accessories: Big Shot, Texturz Plate, Scallop Edge Punch, Baja Breeze Satin Ribbon (Valet Ribbon Originals), Crystal Effects, Dazzling Diamonds Glitter.

A Last Heartfelt Hurrah

I'm back with another Last Hurrah with a Last Chance set for you tonight. I think Heartfelt Thanks is one of the most classic SU sets out there. It was probably one of the first two step stamping sets I ever used. Tonight the Clean and Simple Challenge (CAS) over at Splitcoast is to use Kraft, Pink/Coral shades and one other color in a Clean and Simple Design. I knew it would be perfect for Heartfelt Thanks.

I'm not a traditional CAS girl. But sometimes it works, I'm hoping you think this is one of those times!

I really love Kraft as a color, it gives you such a warm palette, and pairs so well with many colors. AND what I most love about Kraft is how white looks on it. Stamped especially!

Here I 2-Step stamped the flowers on the white, added an additional flower popped up and also stamped the bloom on the Kraft layer in VersaMark and in White Craft.

The focal layer has a simple row of patterned paper and pretty ribbon. Because the other side of the Kiwi satin ribbon is cream, I twisted it a bit in the knot so only the Kiwi side would show and not clash vanilla against the crisp white. A simple sentiment flag and a corduroy brad sets it off just nicely!

Thanks for popping over!

Last Hurrah - Flip Flop Bella

So I was at Old Navy the other day getting my daughter some new flip flops. She tore her others right through, and we had an outdoor pool party at friends to go to last night. Wow does Old Navy ever have a lot of flip flops! I could hardly choose. She has size 8!! feet already, bigger than mine! So I ended up taking 3 pair home! I looked at the pattern on one pair and thought it would make a nice inspiration piece...so I pulled out my Bella set because it's on the Last Chance List that I'm focusing on this week (sniff sniff)...and created.

Here's the inspiration flip flops and card:

I really liked the colors and pattern to the flip flops, a blend of black, vibrant blue, a rosy red and a light yellow. I like the fun dots throughout too.

So I stamped the Bella Blossom 3 times in Rose Red and Barely Banana, cut out in sections and then sponged all the edges to give it depth of color. I used my Big Shot and Ovals Bigz die to create the focal oval and rose sentiment oval.

The main card has the pretty flowers Texturz plate, and the other layers have lots of sponging and I added white gel pen as accent and to mimic the flip flop dots. Very vivid colors, but fun too. Especially when you see the flip flops.

I'll be sad to see this set go. When I first looked at it in the catalogue it didn't wow me I thought it was too Art Deco, that was until I started seeing samples with it...it really has that WOW factor!
Thanks for stopping by today. I so appreciate it!

Clearly Strutting

You know, I had a dream about a peacock last night. Weird hey? I guess subliminally that influenced my stamp choice...or it could be that I was inspired by Laura Fredrickson from last week too.

Laura is hosting our Flourishes Friday Focus this week and she's challenged us to make the most of our clear cardstock. There's really a lot you can do with that transparent cool look, punch shapes from it, stamp on it, use it as accent, use it as a card base....clearly it's all about your creativity!

I chose to use it today as an accent for my sentiment. I cut out the clear shape with my Deckled Rectangles Nestability shape, and then stamped the swirly from my Strut Your Stuff set on there. This mimics the other shapes I have in the card.
I watercolored this beautiful peacock, sponged the background, and then used my Aqua Painter to blend the background to give it a soft effect. I thought this Lime Rickey paper from Basic Grey had the perfect pattern for the peacock feathers.

AND I had to add some pretty jewelry...these are the new Finishing Touches Beautiful Brads in Copper. Today you can see some beautiful Mini Tags at Faith's blog, Pretty Pins with Latisha, and some Architectural Brads at Cindy's! They're also doing some clear cardstock creations too!

Also check out the other clear creations here:

Small Wonder

My mom and my daughter and I are headed to a Baby Shower for my niece with the other side of the family this weekend. We're going together on joint gifts so I get to make the card :)

I've always loved this stamp in the Summer by the Sea set. I think the little girl looks so sweet looking over the bluff. It makes me think of what my niece will look like in a few years, her little tufts of brown hair peeking under her sun hat. My sister in law is funny, before Adi was born, she thought in her head that her daughter wouldn't be one of those little girls to always wear pink....but as soon as she was born she said pink won her over, she can't get enough of it! So I created an all pink, all-girl card.

The girl is colored with copics, I sponged the sky to give it the feeling of a sunset. I loved this Basic Grey Perhaps paper pattern and how it went with the pinks and the sand in the main image. I gave it a little decorative piercing with my Pierceabilities template, and some Kaiser pearl accents.

Don't accents make a card? I mean, they just add that finishing touch of beauty, sort of like Jewelery don't you think? Well....today is the first sneak peek of something beautiful coming to Flourishes this Friday, it's called Finishing Touches.

Today you'll want to visit Leslie, Laura, Stacy and Julie to see the sneak peek of their Finishing Touches for today.

Tomorrow come back and see me! I'll have some beautiful Finishing Touches to show you!

Recipe: Stamps: Summer by the Sea, So Many Sayings; Ink: Palette Noir, Pink Pirouette; Paper: Pink Pirouette, Whisper White, Copic Paper, Basic Grey Perhaps DSP, Bella Birds DSP; Accessories: Big Shot, Labels 3 Nestabilities, Victorian Pierceabilities, Ornare Piercer, Pink Pirouette Striped Ribbon, Kaiser Pearls, Sponge, Copic Markers, Texturz Plate, Dimensionals

Scarlet Berry Inspiration

The Inspiration Challenge tonight is a site called Little Odd Forest which carries a number of things...including numerous purses.

I was taken by this one (link above) called Scarlet Berries

I was thinking about my new Topiary set from Flourishes and how the colors and pattern inspired me.

The Topiary is colored with copics, and I added copic shadow and then sponged with So Saffron. I've added rhinestone berries (clear rhinestones colored with a sharpie).

I also wanted to mimic the corners of the purse on the design, so I took the Labels Four Nestability and cut it down in sections and used it on the design.
Thanks for stopping by! Have a great Saturday!
Recipe: Stamps: Flourishes - Topiary; Ink: Palette Noir; Paper: Basic Black, Old Olive, Ruby Red, Copic Paper; Accessories: Big Shot, Spellbinders Labels Four, Texturz Plate; Riding Hood Red Taffeta Ribbon, Clear Rhinestones, Red Sharpie, Copic Markers, Ornare Piercing mat and piercer, Dimensionals

Swimmin! Invites

Our middle son will celebrate his 10th Birthday next week, so I had to finish the party invites so he can take them to school today. It's going to be a swimming party so I thought Just Beachy would be the perfect set.

These are really simple, but fun cards. I just do card fronts for party invites. These were night photos so they don't show the color as well as I'd like.

I rolled the Lazy Days wheel with VersaMark on the Kraft layer and then stamped off and then stamped the PARTY word (from Calendar Cues) in Ruby Red. The wheel is also rolled on the Ruby Red layer.

I wanted to give the feel of a porthole into the ocean so I cut out the ovals with my Big Shot, then cut a large circle punch hole in the middle. (Then I used that circle for the tucked in sentiment). I popped up one fish, stamped one to look like he's in the distance, and tied it with hemp. Just a couple more circles added as accents. Very mail-able too, which some will have to be.

He thinks they're great - but I know he's just excited about the party!

Recipe: Stamps: Just Beachy, Hugs and Wishes, Calendar Cues, Lazy Days Wheel; Ink: Black Stazon, Ruby Red, Soft Sky, VersaMark; Paper: Kraft, Ruby Red, Soft Sky, Soft Sky Prints, Naturals Ivory; Accessories: Big Shot, Oval Bigz Die, Large Circle Punch, 3/4 circle punch, 1/2 circle punch, Sponge, SW Markers, Reinkers, Aqua Painter, Dimensionals, Hemp.

Baffling Befuddled Butterflies

Oh this color challenge almost did me in! Emily gave us Only Orange, Purely Pomegranate and Brilliant Blue....now where are you going to go with that? They all have the same deep saturation and the Pomegranate and Orange are complementary...but then you throw in that blue..sheesh!

Here's what I finally came up with after much dis-assembling and rearranging and staring and frustration!

I had no designer paper to throw in here, so I had to create my own using the Whisper White. I used the Rock and Roll technique on the butterflies.

Whew, that's done, I'm not sure how I feel about it! It's definitely vibrant...which is a far cry from the snow we have today, can you believe it? And our daughter has a school track meet today....all day, out in the snow!

Oh my poor flowers!

Recipe: Stamps: Great Friend; Ink: Only Orange, Purely Pomegranate, Brilliant Blue, White Craft; Paper: Purely Pomegranate, Only Orange, Brilliant Blue, Whisper White; Accessories: Big Shot, Top Note Die, Texturz Plate, Oval Punch, Large White Brads, White Organza Ribbon

First Mommy's Day

I mentioned last week that I wanted to show you what I made for my sister-in-law's first Mother's Day present. I'll never forget my first Mother's Day as a mom. It was full of special moments. I remember the year before our daughter was born. We were wondering if we'd have a baby, only to get pregnant and then lose our first pregnancy. It was heartbreaking (I'm sure many of you know this first hand). So to finally have our daughter and on that 2nd Sunday in May when all the mothers stand up at church and take home a flower honoring moms, I just felt so grateful and full of joy.

I know for my sister-in-law seeing this day come to reality is special, and I wanted to commemerate that for her. I'm not much of a scrapbooker anymore, but I've been collecting pictures I've taken of my niece over the past 10 weeks to use for this very thing. Wow has she grown!

So I photo-edited all the pictures into black and white, softened all the edges in my editing software, and just made a sweet simple accordian mini album on paper coasters. This way she can put it on her dresser or desk and be reminded of the sweetness of her girl.

Here is the album cover...Bella Toile background and Lots of Tags Sizzlit frame, I just handwrote on the cover. The ribbon looks wonky here, but it really was straight! I think I must have pulled it when I set it down for the photo. This next shot is a bit dark, but you get the feel for the spread of the album...

Here is the inside....simple accents like eyelet borders, felt flowers, a little ribbon and Lovely Letters to spell out Mommy. I hinged each section with a scored section of Basic Gray cardstock and ribbon. I kept it very simple to highlight the pictures not the book.

I loved it and thought it was a sweet gift, but to see my sister in law when she opened it, she burst into tears. I know it meant a lot to her. Sometimes it's just the simple gifts from the heart that mean so much. Isn't this little sweetheart beautiful? Oh we adore her.

This is Adeline yawning :) and their happy little family at Easter (my brother is the happy Daddy).

Come on back tomorrow (Wednesday) ...it begins new release week peeks from Flourishes! I'm so excited!

Recipe: Stamps: Bella Toile, Lovely Letters; Paper: Basic Gray, Whisper White, Pink Pirouette, Bella Rose DSP; Ink: Basic Gray, Pretty in Pink; Accessories: Big Shot, Sizzlits (Lots of Tags), Eyelet Scallop Border, Felt Flowers, Gray Taffeta Ribbon, Striped Pink Pirouette Ribbon, Mono Multi Glue, Dimensionals, Glue Dots, Wide Oval Punch.

God's Handwriting

Today's Inspiration Challenge over at SCS is a really cool pillow website called Bonjour Mon Coussin... (Hello my Cushion).

Here is the link to this pillow I chose as inspiration: Guitar I just loved the colors!
I needed one more Mother's Day card for my sister-in-law who will be celebrating her very first Mother's Day this year as a Mommy :)

There is something that happens to you when you become a Mother. I believe you see and experience God's love in a whole new way. As you look at your child you see God's handwriting in their beauty, in their preciousness, in the miracle of their life!

This is such a pretty Hostess set don't you think? I embossed the butterfly on watercolor paper and added reinkers to color. I stamped the pretty flowers on Confetti Cream (a new favourite color of mine) and lightly watercolored them and cut out, then used the same technique on the leaves.
The bottom half of the card is embossed with a Texturz plate and the black of the sentiment is from the Lots of Tags Sizzlits.

I made a special gift for my sister-in-law that I'll be showing you next week too! Happy Mother's Day to all of you moms out there!

Recipe: Stamps: God's Handwriting; Ink: Black Stazon, VersaMark, Baja Breeze, Purely Pomegranate DSP & Cardstock, Confetti Cream; Accessories: Big Shot, Texturz Plate, Lots of Tags Sizzlits, Corduroy Brads, Glue Dots, Dimensionals, Reinkers, Aqua Painter, Baja Satin Ribbon & Black Velvet Ribbon (Valet Ribbon Originals).

His and Hers

It's a fun day in the pre-release challenges over at Flourishes Today. We've called it "His and Hers".....this challenge is all about finding the versatility in your card layouts. Creating something masculine and feminine using the same layout.

On the left you'll see my masculine version and then on the right (obviously hey?) is the feminine.

What makes a card masculine or feminine do you think? These cards use the same layout and stamp sets, they are both colored with copics, both use the same Deckled Rectangle Nestabilities...yet they look decidedly different.

For me having it be masculine or feminine is all in the color choices, the treatments used on the papers, and the accents added.

Here on the masculine version I used neutral colors in my Copics, adding neutral sponging in the main image layer. I used Jenni Bowlin papers in the chocolate color (making the dots a caramel color with my Copics). I added texture to the bottom half of the card with my Texturz plate and sponged the edges to give it a deeper warmer feel.

Accents are simple, not frou-frou at all :), simple ribbon with no bows, and hardware. Every man loves hardware right? (lol)

Now for the feminine version...a totally different feel, a little more layering, definite feminine colors, very feminine ribbon, and eyelet border, the addition of swirly piercing and rhinestone accents. Totally gives it a feminine feel don't you think?

So now it's your turn! Make a feminine card and then, using the same layout, give it a masculine spin. Upload this to SCS or your blog (or both) with the keyword fllcmay and then link it at the Flourishes Newsletter. This contest will close at 5 PM Eastern on Friday the 15th. The winner of the drawing will take home all three of the new releases! Fantastic ones I might add.... :) We'll be showing you sneak peeks starting next week! Thanks for dropping by today!

A Wedding Rose

Today's Color Challenge colors over at SCS are beautiful bold ones ....Real Red, Old Olive, Black and White or Vanilla.

Well, of course, how could you go wrong with a Red Rose??? Especially since we have a wedding this weekend and this will be perfect.

I used the Fifth Avenue Floral Rose watercoloring it. Let me just say that if you're new to watercoloring...red is not the color to start with, at least with SU Reinkers. Red has deep pigment and stain and you have to move it or blend it a lot so that it won't stain the paper and will blend well. It had me going today!

I paired the pretty rose with the Sizzlit leaves, and the Manhattan Flower embossing folder, using the reverse or de-bossed side. I added the Scalloped Bigz shape and the scalloped sentiment. The ribbon is lovely, and I wish you could see it better, it's the textured velvet ribbon from the Valet Ribbon Originals.

I really love the bold contrasts and texture. Thanks for popping by...we're off to swimming lessons in a bit!
