Watercoloured Coral Peony

How has your week been friends?  We’re in the midst of two sports seasons finishing up in the next week and school being out in about 2 weeks.  Life’s been full.  I just got back from volunteering our daughter’s classroom, teaching her 25 Grade 3 hooligans how to make a Father’s Day card.  I love them dearly, but MAN were they squirrelly.  My heart is with all those teachers out there like her who are combatting wiggly kids hungry for summer, in schools that are still going.  You are awesome!

Speaking of summer, I am eagerly waiting the first peony to bloom here.  Mine are covered in ants just working to break the seal of the bud any day now.  So, I decided to paint some paper peonies in some of my favourite colours while I wait.

The main part of this card is using Power Poppy’s newly released digital image Big Flouncy Peony, and I’ve printed it on Arches 90 lb Cold Pressed watercolor paper.

I pulled some gorgeous Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors out to give life to those pretty petals, Quinachridone Coral, Quinachridone Gold, Hooker’s Green, Jadeite Genuine, and Lunar Violet for the background and shadows.  It’s one of my favourite paints to add depth to floral petals.  It has a nice granulating effect too.

For the pretty background I took the coordinating clear polymer set which this digi is based from, Abundant Petals, and embossed the same peony bloom in white on the textured gray cardstock.  Then I sponged some Flannel Gray Memento ink from right to left to give it an ombre background look.  I’ve also used the same technique for the leaves and cut them with the Abundant Petals coordinating dies.  Some twine, enamel dots and the sentiment (outside and inside) from Power Poppy’s set, Vibrant Thanks.

See you soon!  And keep a lookout, I just received my gorgeous NEW Stamps, soon to release from Power Poppy and I can’t wait to dig in and create to show you!  You’re going to love them!

Pop on over to be inspired by my lovely friends

Stunning Christine, I love the bright, colourful peony.
Your watercolouring is always awesome, just like this finished card.
Thank you so much for sharing and have a great weekend.

Love your card, Christine. The peony is exquisitely colored. Like the gray tones for the leaves--lets the vibrant peony petals be the highlight. tfs

Oh, Christine, you know I love it when you watercolor. This is gorgeous! I've found I really like having both the digi version and the clear stamp for reasons such as this. It's such a nice effect to be able to use them together. Your colors and coloring are so beautiful!
