Recently, in my fun rediscovery of watercolour, I decided to also purchase some Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers. I like the idea of an actual brush with bristles to also use in painting some of my images, especially small ones.
After masking and stamping an arrangement with some gorgeous florals from Power Poppy’s new set Abundant Petals, I gave them some vibrant warm shades of orange, red and yellow on a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inch piece of Arches Cold Pressed Watercolor Paper. After I finished the image, I decided to make two cards from one and cut the image to be about 2/3 and 1/3 split horizonatally. Then, I masked and stamped the deep purple layer, stamping in purple ink to match the original image, and fit them together like puzzle pieces. Jennifer McGuire has done this with images and I love the look.
For the sentiment I used some sparkly self-adhesive gold letters I had on hand, and embossed the sentiment in gold on a strip of black. I think that helps ground the images too.
This second card makes use of the “thank you” in the set and it’s also embossed in gold.
I gave the images some cool purple background to set off the colours nicely. Overall I’m really pleased with these brush markers. They have very pigmented colour and blend nicely. I found that for my paper at least, if you dampen it first it stains the paper less and you get a nicer blend. But you need to experiment with your paper of choice to see how they react. Overall - very fun!

Oh, Christine, I love how you've made a "two-for" with your coloring! I love this idea, and I'm so glad you got the Zig markers. I love them and still need to use them more. Your watercoloring is dreamy, and I love the looseness around the edges...so rich. and what great layouts for each one! Thanks for the inspiration, sweet friend! I've been working on my mojo and been busy making some cards for our church card ministry. Hoping to go today and play some. Hugs and love! xoxo
Wow, the colors! Those Zigs really lay it on. I've been wondering about them, but haven't been sure if I wanted to make the purchase. If you say so... Interesting how you did the split and got the outline matched up on the purple. Love the gold. Both cards are magnificent!
Gorgeous cards! Love how you split the original piece, very cool. I’ve been considering getting those Zig markers, glad to hear you like them.
