The Feel of Fall

Well, have you enjoyed the sneak peeks of the Flourishes sets this week?  I hope so, it's always so fun to show them to you!  The store is open, and be sure to check out all the new papers, nestabilities and ribbons too!  The new release sets are 10 % off for the bundle for one week only!

I have one last creation to show you with my favourite set of the release here's a copy of the proof for the set:
Isn't the detail on this set by Marcella stunning?  What versatile wreaths too!
I chose to use Beate's Weekend Sketch to pair with this beautiful sunflower wreath.  The wreath is colored with Copics, and I've added some of the larger sunflowers popped up.  I also colored the ribbon with my copic marker so it would be a perfect match!  And the Nestie behind the image is the new Lattice Shapeabilities also available at Flourishes.
Ok girls, I'm pooped for tonight....here's the link for the New Release Bundle in the store.  Happy Shopping!
Come back tomorrow for the Blog Candy Winner!

For my Brother

Monday is my brother's birthday, and we had a family celebration last night.
When I asked a number of weeks ago what YOU would like to see on my blog, one of the most requested things was masculine cards. I have to admit, it's not something I excel at! I went through my stash of cards yesterday thinking I might have something on hand for his birthday already, and NOPE not one masculine card. Yikes! Guess its something I have to work on.

So, this card actually fits for 3 challenges this weekend, the Limited Supply Challenge for Masculine cards from Friday, Sharon/notimetostamps challenge for polka dots and Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge.

To keep this masculine I used very deep masculine colors, no frilly ribbon. The accents are metal oriented with the clip and brads, and the texture gives it a masculine feel too, with a little white craft sponged over. I created the feel of my own designer paper with stamps on several of the layers. The sketch was for a square card, so I trimmed it to 4.25 x 4.25. I put a gift card inside for his present.

Toonie Tuesday - Life Sip by Sip

Well, I've been a little MIA from blogging these few days. Not from creating though. My brother and sister-in-law are having their first baby in 4 weeks! So, I've been designing for her. She decided against birth announcements, knowing she wouldn't get them out on time, and asked for baby thank you cards instead....so I've been working on that. Then I decided last week I'd like to knit them a blanket for the baby....so I've been knitting alot, in fact my hands are sore! I'm no knitting expert, more like a novice, but it's fun and I'll show it to you when I'm done.

Ok...today's color challenge said Retro to me, you know those avocado green appliances, orange shag carpet and yellow sunshine walls? So I picked up my very Retro coffee set, Sip by Sip and used it today, along with Beate's sketch challenge, it can have sort of a retro feel too.

I used Chocolate Chip as my neutral, and added lots of sponging and some dimension, and then pierced the feeling of the coffee steam. Not my usual style...but a good stretch.

Back with #2!

Well, my beautiful Bellas have been unloved of late...and I love them too much to leave them that way!

These colors blend so well because they are complimentary....neighbours across the color wheel, Pumpkin is a neighbour with Summer Sun and Summer Sun is a neighbour to Kiwi Kiss. The Pumpkin and Kiwi are more contrasting... (closer to opposite), but that's why this color combination works.

Because of the complimentary natures...I could sponge the colors onto each other. So I stamped the Bella Flower 3 x and sponged each piece with Pumpkin Pie, on the leaves I sponged with Summer Sun and then a little more Kiwi. So so vivid and pretty!

The background of the Top Note is Bella Toile background, also then sponged with Summer Sun.

Ah summer....I wait for you! (it's been snowing for 2 days here...and will continue tomorrow!).

Funky Coat Christmas

Apparently this is my day for stamping....and in colors I don't usually use!

I came home tonight just in time to see the Inspiration Challenge at SCS. It's a link to a clothing company in the US called Boden (which by the way means soil in German, just in case you needed to know that).

Here's the picture that called to me....

It's such an unusual color combo...but a lot of kids clothes are inspirational like that. I like the winter feel, the trees in the background, her cute hat and scarf and the great teal lining to the coat (it has cute toggles and buttons too).

So here is my Christmas rendition. I broke out Season of Joy because it has this sort of fun funky feel to it. The sketch is Beate's weekend sketch challenge, and I've used old and new DSP's and pretty teal velvet ribbon and a pretty rhinestone brad.

There ya go...no more stamping for ME tonight! Have a great weekend!

Stamps: Season of Joy Ink: Taken with Teal, Kiwi Kiss, Regal Rose Paper; Kiwi Kiss, Kiwi Kiss Patterns DSP, Taken with Teal, Loves Me DSP, Regal Rose, Whisper White Accessories: Dimensionals, SW Markers, Circle Punches, Teal Velvet Ribbon (Flirty), Rhinestone Brad, Piercer

Trio of Soft Sweet Silhouettes

Don't you just love the look of a set or ensemble of cards? I love the artistry and creativity of using the same style or materials and creating something similar, yet unique. I was so inspired by two of my Dirty Dozen Alberta friends Laura Fredrickson, and Dawn Easton who used basic sketches to create numerous cards...so I thought create some of my own. Beate Johns always does a weekend sketch challenge, and Jen Del Munro also does a Friday sketch for you to try challenge So, on the weekend I made a couple of extra cards to go along the theme of one I made the other day for the Featured Stamper Challenge (see previous post)

This one is from Beate's weekend sketch challenge, I think it works so well for this set. I really love this color combination and how you can use your designer series papers. I used scallops and piercing to continue the theme. The main Silhouette image is stamped in Pink Pirhouette and then the stems are added with a Chocolate Chip SW Marker. Punched out with the large Oval Punch and then the larger layers are added freehand with my scissor. I sponged it with Kiwi Kiss and Close to Cocoa. The only non-SU item on here is the ribbon. It's such pretty Vanilla Satin that I picked up by the yard at my local stamp/scrapbooking store.

This one is based on Jen's Friday Sketch For You To Try (SYFTT). Again I used the same basic elements. Scallops, Piercing, Brads, shapes, papers. It gives it a different look, yet fits well together. My poor Pink Pirhouette blooms look slightly washed out in this pic :( it's the morning sun here on this gorgeous fall day.

A pretty Trio I think, and fun and easy to create especially because you have the sketches, and you work with the same materials.
Hope you can head back over here tomorrow, I'll post some adorable samples from my last class where we focused on fall projects using punches. In a bit I'm heading out for a bike ride I think. We have had such gorgeous weather, I don't want to miss out on the beauty of the day!

Inspired Christmas Dishes

I was looking at my lonely Winter Post set....so new....so pretty....so un-inked....so lonely. So I challenged myself tonight that no matter what the Inspiration Challenge would be at SCS I'd used Winter Post. Well, surprise surprise....the Inspiration Piece is not remotely Christmassy...it's a really pretty set of dishes, but the colors were really cool, so I incorporated the colors into this Christmas themed card.

Here's the IC picture. Neat dishes aren't they? I bet there will be some really creative cards from this one.

So here is what I came up with. I love the combination of soft brown, bright greens and the bluey hues, with the gold added. So I pulled out Kiwi Kiss, Close to Cocoa, Baja Breeze DP from the new Winter Mini Christmas Paper and some Kraft.

The Sketch is from Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge, which I haven't been able to do in FOREVER...and it's a cool sketch too (as always).

Card size is 4.25 x 4.25. I basically pieced it all together based on the sketch deciding how I wanted the colors to look, then added the stamping. That's the nice thing about a set like this...lots of versitility. A little scalloping...some overstamping...and little sponging, some gold brads, some really pretty Kiwi Kiss Satin Ribbon and new Snow Flurries Felt Snowflake. A very different but unique Christmas card.

Stay tuned, I'll be back tomorrow morning with our Dirty Dozen monthly challenge.
