Love Grows Here - Garden Wedding

We’ve just returned from a wedding of one of our former students from our Youth Ministry Days.  They got married in BC (British Columbia) which is the province to the west of us.  BC is a gorgeous place, you’ll find it all there in spectacular fashion: glorious mountains, fruit and wine country in semi-desert, thickly timbered forest and islands with rugged coastline.  Such an amazing place to visit.

I’ve known the groom since he was about to begin grade seven.  In fact, the first time we ever hung out was when we took the students through the paths on a beautiful (and challenging) river valley bike ride in our city.  Now, all these years later, we enjoyed an outdoor garden wedding for them in the majestic scenery of BC.

I’ll show you a few photos from the wedding and then more on the card.

It was held at an outdoor venue with a view of Mt. Baker in the background.  Isn’t that both an epic view and a gorgeous bower for the wedding?

This is the barn for the reception.  Gorgeous greenery and flowers were everywhere and each guest had a personalized wood veneer name made for them to mark their place.  Such elegant, yet warm details touched everything.  It was one of the prettiest and yet most heartfelt and authentic weddings we’ve had the pleasure of attending.

I wanted to create something special in a card for them that had the distinctives of my own brushstokes to it, so I printed the very lovely new arrangment of succulents from Power Poppy called So Succulent Digital Stamp Set onto Arches Cold Pressed Watercolor Paper (90 lb).  This digital set mimics the lovely polymer set, Succulent Singles, now put into an arrangement.  I’ve coloured it in another design with Copics HERE if you want to take a peek.

Using Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors in lots of shades of green (Sap Green, Hooker’s Green, Jadeite Genuine and Phthalo Turquoise, with Payne’s Gray and Lunar Violet for Shadows), I watercoloured the lovely arrangement.

The sentiment is from another succulent Digital Set, Hen and Chicks.  I like how it works for a wedding themed design.  A few holeless sequins (from TCP) accent.  I didn’t want to take away from the simplicity of the watercolor.

The card is 6 1/2 x 5 inches, so just a bit larger than normal and I’ve added a few layers of framing and embossing.

There’s just something about green that is so soothing and inviting and symbolic of life and growth.  Though I have an affection for all the colours, green remains my favourite.

Have a great weekend friends!  Here’s the rest of the Bloom Brigade with Inspiration today!

Saw this on SCS and came to look closer. We just attended a similar wedding with barn reception and the scenery was pretty, but this is breathtakingly beautiful!

Your watercoloring is stunning! I had wanted to pick up the succulents when the sale was on a couple of weeks ago, but was on vacation and couldn't work it out with the internet where we were. Beautiful card and the wedding looks spectacular, too!
