ODBDSLC21 - I Sought the Lord

This will be a long post people....just so you know, lots of important stuff inside, creative and personal :) 

As this post goes live I am on a plane with my husband, our children and a number of our high school students and leaders (21 of us) on a Mission Trip.  I'm beside myself about it!   I thought about not saying anything but I thought maybe you'd like to know too.  We'll be working with two Churches doing a Vacation Bible School at one, and then a Sports Camp and construction at the other church.  My husband has done this trip with the HS'ers twice before, but this is the first time for me and the kids to go with the team.  My husband LOVES these people and they love him and the Pastor and his family told him that they next time he comes that he needed to bring us with him - or he couldn't come back :) 

But, this wasn't an easy decision for me.  It's a lot of time extending myself out with a lot of people 24 -7 and especially with our children with us there too, and I was very anxious about it.  Though I have a very extroverted job in ministry, I am in reality still an introvert and need down time to recharge....so all this was a big leap of faith and a big stretch for me. So, I promised my husband that I would pray about it.  I didn't get an answer for a long time, and then one day several months ago I just felt the Lord say "you can go", and I felt a deep peace about us going too.  His assurance washed over me and has left me a real sense of rest about the decision.  So....now we're on a plane.  You're prayers for doing our work well, and safety and effective ministry there are welcome!  It's so important to me to have our not only our HS'ers but our own children experience and love another culture, another economic situation, to see God at work in another place...and for them to be a part of it too.  Our heart is to be His workmanship and make a difference and do what God has prepared in advance for us to do.  (Ephesians 2:10)

So, this card for the ODBDSLC21 challenge (which is all about coloring) is kind of dedicated to what this Mission Trip is about for me, which I'll explain in a minute. 

Today is my last day on the Challenge Team with the lovely people of ODBD.  It's been just over 6 months and I've so appreciated serving with them.  They are wonderful women who's heart is to use their creativity to create and shine Light into the world.  Thank you so much Kelley and the ODBD team for your generous hearts and hearts for following Jesus.  It's been a pleasure working with you! 

I think this is still one of my favourite ODBD sets, Sing to the Lord, and I've given it color with Copic Markers (Y17, Y19, Y35, Y38, BH11, BG13, G12, G21, G24, Y3, W7), and popped the top blooms up with dimensionals.  I tipped the nestie shape slightly, framing it in the background with the Lotus shape Die. 

I love the accenting on the bottom with the folded papers (My Minds Eye), the Rings Border Punch from Martha Stewart and the Satin Ribbon. 

And I don't often decorate the inside of my cards, but I could not resist this one, it's from the Scripture Collections set and the verse really defines for me what the next days are all about. 

So...I'll be absent here on the blog for a little bit...I'll see you again toward the end of the month, with lots of news about all we've seen and done.  Thanks for your visit and your prayers!

ODBDSLC21 - I Sought the Lord

Gettin' Sketchy

How's your weekend going?  How about a fun sketch for this week's ODBD Challenge?  Sounds great doesn't it?

I'm really INTO sketches lately, it's just so nice to have someone do the layout work for you, especially in summer when I have limited time for crafting. 

I've been looking longingly at this pretty designer paper from 7 Gypsies called Savannah for a while now, and today seemed like the perfect challenge for it.  I chose some pretty Prism paper to match (Sage Medium) and some SU So Saffron.  I stamped the birds nest from the Nest Set, with Crushed Curry so it would stand out a little more, and then overstamped the verse from Scripture Collection 4 with Forest Moss Distress Ink, and then used the nestie as a template sponged Tea Dye Distress ink overtop, and on the outside of the designer paper. 

I love that I was able to create a frame with the nesties, accenting it with the Floral Accent Nesties shapes, some pearls and this gorgeous old SU ribbon.  The vertical stripes are made with my Martha Stewart Rings edge punch, double punching the row in the middle, and single punching for the outer stripes. 

I love this verse and need it's reminding often.  This makes me think too of the verse reminding us that he watches the birds of the air too (thus the nest) and that my cares are cared for by Him and I need to bring him my honest self.  It's so good to know I'm not in this alone.

Gettin' Sketchy

My Bible Bookmark

Welcome to our Shining the Light Challenge with Our Daily Bread Designs this week.  Today's challenge is one I actually made for ME, moi, myself :)  A bookmark! 

I often make bookmarks for other people, in fact I made one for my Dad for Father's Day last week, I'll show it to you this next week.  But today, I made this for me.  My Bible does have a page ribbon, but usually I've stuffed other things in there to mark other pages, and now I'll have something pretty to put in instead.

I've used the very pretty Grow in Grace set, because to me, it's my heart to grow in understanding His grace for me this year.  I've used some of my favourite colors to combine, rich olives and peaches - using Webster's Pages and I cut out a window for the flowers from this set using my nestability template.  Lots of pretty ribbons and beads and a charm.  I don't know why, but I took lots of pictures of this one, I must like it :)

Coloring is done with Copics (R01, R11, R12, R14 and YG91 YG93, YG95, and some shading with W2)

Yummy Ribbons, Crochet Lace, Silk and Satin Finish as well as twine and beads. 

And then some ruffles along the bottom.  Very feminine but not too fussy or bulky to put in the pages of my Bible.  Plus now I'll never miss where my Bible is.  When I do announcements and prayer up front in Church on Sundays I'm notorius for grabbing our Senior Pastor's Bible from the pulpit after prayer rather than mine (they do look a lot alike)....then he starts preaching and instead of his Bible up there - it's mine.  It's happened like 3 times at least!  So embarrasing.  He looks at me and says "Christine I think you have my Bible"  I have to get up in front of everyone and trade him, thankfully our congregation is able to laugh WITH me not at me :)    See why I need so much grace? 

This Sunday my husband and I are preaching in the three services.  All of us on staff take turns throughout the year at least twice so our Senior Pastor gets a break.  We'll be preaching on Leaving a Legacy of Faith.  So, I'm off for now....see you next week!

My Bible Bookmark

My Soul Finds Rest

How about some F.L.O.W.E.R.S. for the Our Daily Bread Challenge today?  Today you get to choose from a recipe - and you must use any 3 items for your creation...

F - flower stamps, L - lace, O - ODBD Stamps or ovals or O shaped embellishments, W - Watercoloring, E - Embossing (dry or heat set), R - Ribbon and S - Stitching - faux or machine. 

Crazy me, I chose to do all of them!

F - Flowers - These lovely Fushias from the From Me to You set

L - Lace along the bottom of the card

O - ODBD stamps and pearls

W - watercoloring - which I've used to color the image

E - Embossing - gold Ranger Embossing

R - Ribbon - silk tied with the Bow Easy

S - Stitching - I did some machine zig zagging around the card.

Above you can see the coloring and embossing a little bit better.  Once I used the Labels 8 nesties to cut out the image I used the nestie template to sponge inside of the image to soften the look, so it had more of an impressionistic feel, and really give it a nice match to the designer papers (Memory Box Spearmint). 

The sentiment is from the beautiful Scripture Collection 4 Set, which I stamped in Mellow Moss ink.  Such an encouraging Scripture to me.  There's no where else I can truly find rest but in God, and that He is the source of stability and strength.  I need to be reminded of this often.

My Soul Finds Rest

Some Summer Color

Here we are at week 17 of our ODBD Shining the Light Challenges and today you get to do some choosing of colors.  You can make a creation with Blue, Yellow and Green together ....or two of those colors, OR one of them creating something monochromatic.   Sound fun? 

Here's mine: 

I chose to go mostly monochromatic in shades of yellow, using this pretty The Lord has Risen set.   I love how cheerful Apricot looks, and I feel sad that SU is retiring it.  The flowers are colored with Copic Markers Y17, Y19, Y35, Y38 and I think a little YR04, and the leaves with YG00, YG01, YG03). Then I masked it and sponged Apricot ink over top.  I used this weeks' Mojo Sketch 142.

I love this SU ribbon, gee wiz why didn't I crack this open sooner?  It was part of a combo set, it's quite thick and lacy.  Martha Stewart Hydrangea punch along the bottom and SU's new Square Lattice Embossing Folder. 

Of course the part I can never get to photograph well - I used a gold spica pen all over the design to give it sparkle.  You can probably only see a hint of it in the flower centers....but it's all over!   The sentiment is from one of the new Fuschia sets, From Me to You, I just used my marker and bent the sentiment to fit in the circle. 

There are never a shortage of people that need prayer are there?  So never a shortage of people you could send a card like this to!

Some Summer Color

A Spring Sketch

Welcome to week 16 of ODBD's Shining the Light Challenge!  Today we have a sketch for you to try out!

Ok, I have no idea why this goofy picture stretched out wide like this, because it wasn't that way when I saved it!  But I think you get the idea :)

And here's what I made with the brand new set God Loves You from ODBD, I just love the Fuschia's in this months' sets!  I actually went out and bought a Fuschia for our hanging planter in front of our house just because of this set!  It's these colors too, white with deep pink.

I colored the fuschia with copic markers and then sponged the edges of the Blossom Nestie shape with Pixie Pink.  Then the cool parts come in .... I used a new CB folder from ODBD that's just beautiful and it comes with template cut out shapes too.  It's the Ornamental Iron Combo, and I used both the embossing folder and the cut outs on this card.  Then to give it an extra special touch I sprayed Metallic Pearl Glimmer Mist over the main image and the embossed layers to give it such beautiful sparkle!  Hopefully you can see it a little better below. 

The papers are SEI Happy Day 6 x 6 pack.   

Inside of the card I stamped a verse from the partner set to this one  From Me to You:  "The Lord Bless You and Keep You" from Numbers 6:24.  We have some friends who right now are going through a lot.  Their 5 year old daughter just had brain surgery this week to remove a tumor on her brain stem, and today they found out the pathology of the tumor is cancer, and their daughter will have 6 1/2 weeks of radiation treatment.  Can you just imagine?  Our youngest is just six so my heart is just heavy for them. I think this will be a good verse to send to them.  I know they are exhausted and that only God can sustain them and keep them these next weeks as they enter into treatment.  It's one of my favourite blessings in the Word too, and I pray it will be an encouragment to them.  They are amazing people of faith  - wow I just don't even know what else to say, pray for them would you?  The little girls name is Naomi.

A Spring Sketch

Some Stars and Stripes

Happy Memorial Day Weekend to my American Friends!  Hope you have some good plans for the days ahead.  Today is our middle son's eleventh Birthday!  We're so proud of him, he's such a gifted, warm and loving kid!  But we won't be celebrating till later this week because we're performing a wedding for one of our graduates today.  It's such a special day, she's just so precious to us, and we've come to really love and appreciate her soon-to-be husband too.  It's really quite amazing to be a part of some of these life changing events in the lives of our "kids"....

So...now onto what I have for you today.  Since it's Memorial Day weekend for many of you our ODBD Shining the Light Challenge for this week is to create something with Stars and/or Stripes in it, and I have a little of both!

I took this tool-filled tool box from the set Happy Father's Day and colored it up richly with Copic Markers...a ton of them, and I didn't even photograph which ones!  Sorry!  I wanted it to have the wood-grain look throughout so you see many variations of stripes of color in the tool box and wood (table?) below.  I added stripes in my woodgrain embossing with the Texturz plate and also in this fun paper from Basic Grey which is new and called Max and Whiskers.   I used this past weeks' SFYTT from Jen Del Muro for my layout, and got my STARS in with the star studded brads within the circles.  Aren't they perfect for the "hardware" theme?

A sentiment banner, some distressing and some frayed twill and it's all done!

Some Stars and Stripes

Strong and Courageous

Well, I hope your weekend is off to a good start.  Our daughter had Friday off so we did a little girl-time shopping together, and now we have Monday off (Victoria Day here) and the boys have Tuesday off too, so it's long weekend time for us.  We've had 3 days of beautiful rain too, that's been so needed, it will be so wonderfully green when the sun comes out, and all the annuals I planted and the perennials will love it too! 

Today the Our Daily Bread Challenge Team has a new challenge for you.  This one is all about the sentiment.  The challenge is to make the sentiment the focus of your card - and that's so easy with ODBD stamps and the beautiful verses and sentiments.  I used the Scripture Collection 3 and the Vine Borders for my focal image on Basic Grey Green at Heart paper, with gold embossing.  Such a powerful and encouraging verse too isn't it?   I have some wonderful *eye-candy* inspiration for you too, from Amy Atlas Events website for today's IC challenge over at SCS too.  Link is page 49 a Moroccan table spread of yummy goodies. 

I also did some rolled ribbon flowers to accent with some die cut branches.  At this angle below you can see the verse better.

Strong and Courageous

Those May Flowers

We've been having beautiful weather this week.  All my perennials are growing and it won't be long before they are blooming.  Today finds us at a wedding of 2 of our former students marrying one another, so it will be a joyful spring day with weddings and flowers.  The Our Daily Bread Designs Challenge Team has another challenge to invite you into this week too.  We want to see how your April Showers have turned into Flowered May creations! 

I took this beauty - Mom from Our Daily Bread Designs and stamped it twice with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  I colored with copic markers (YG91, 93, 95, 99;  R00 R01, R11, R12, R14;  and R29, R39 and R89).  Then cut out and extra Wild Rose Blossom to pop it up. 

I trimmed it in an Out of the Box fashion with Labels 10 Nestabilities, and then added Ultrafine Flower Soft in Sage . 

I repeated the flower design by overstamping it around the sentiment in Ruby Red, and paired it with some great designer paper Jocelyn by SEI.

A Light For My Path

Last night I was speaking at a Women's Event in a town near ours, but my husband was celebrating our High School Graduates at our Grad Night.  These kids in grade 12 have been with us since grade 7, so I was a little sad to have missed the celebration.  But this week's ODBD Challenge fits perfectly with the Grad Theme.  The Challenge Team is challenging you to create a Graduation Card or gift.

I just love this ODBD set, it's one of my favourites.  It's called Light of the World, it just speaks to me.  I have a thing for Lighthouses.  I've probably mentioned this before, but the building we do our Youth Ministry in is called The Lighthouse.  Perfect name don't you think?  I am so grateful that HE is the Light for my path. 

For this card I colored the scene with my Prismacolor Pencils.  I paired it with some SEI Designer paper (Sweet Perfume Pearl), SEI Happy Day, and Bermuda Bay blue-green.  I scored the Bermuda cardstock on the horizontal in the background to continue that feeling of the horizon.  This Dotted Wave Border punch is perfect for that wavy feeling to isn't it?   And look at my sweet ships-wheel charm!  From my even sweeter Team Mate America!  Thanks girly!

I cut apart the verse for the sentiment and pieced it together to fit better in the space.

A Light For My Path

A Day For Moms

It's a day for Mom's at Our Daily Bread Designs!  Today the Shining the Light Challenge Team has created cards or projects for Mother's Day and we invite you to get a head start on your Mother's Day creations too!  Here's my contribution today

Wouldn't a wreath or table centerpiece look beautiful for a Mother's Day present?  I used this new Happy Mother's Day set from ODBD and colored it up to match my Kioshi paper using my Prismacolor pencils.  It has a very spring feel with the papers, lots of spring greens and softly colored flowers.  I added the sentiment from the set in vellum inside the oval, so you could still see some of the color through the paper.

A Day For Moms

A Little Recycling

Today's Our Daily Bread Designs Shining the Light Challenge is a fun one....you need to use something recycled on your creation. 

Hmm, I had to think about that one for a while.  Then my husband came home with a cup of Starbucks coffee and I looked at the coffee sleeve and knew I had my idea! 

Underneath this pretty fruit basket is part of my husband's coffee sleeve, how's that for recycled?  I just cut the sleeve off on each end and then made sure my focal image would cover the Starbucks logo.  I really like the white flourishes on the sleeve so I thought it would great on a card. 

I tried something new with the coloring on this card.  I colored this lovely Fruit of the Spirit image with Copic Markers on Kraft paper, and then added prismacolor pencil in white overtop for highlight.  Coloring with Copics on Kraft gives you a totally different look.  The color somes out much more muted, but I think it's a neat effect.  I cut the table cloth piece of the focal image out and left the top for a Labels One Nestie tipped on the diagonal.

This card will be going to our Senior Pastor, he's just finished a series on the Fruit of the Spirit and he really is an amazingly gifted preacher, so we feel very blessed to work with him, and hear from him each week.

A Little Recycling

Ask, Seek, Knock and Wild Roses

This week's ODBD Shining the Light Challenge is a great sketch for you to play with. 

Here's the Sketch

I was feeling like making a couple of cards, one masculine and one more feminine.  Here is the masculine one...

I love the richness to this door from the Ask, Seek and Knock set.  I colored it with Copic markers giving the door hardware some blue touches to match the paper I chose. 

I stamped one of the verses all over the background Baja Blue layer and weathered it a little with the stamp pad.  Then I cut the verse into parts and distressed them and added them over the ribbon.

Now to the feminine version...

This is the very beautiful new set Mom, I thought the flower looked just like a wild rose that we have so many of around here along the wooded parts.  It's actually our Province's official flower, so I made this for the Inspiration Challenge at SCS today too.  I colored these with Copics as well taking my colors from the Basic Grey Green at Heart paper again :)  It's totally yummy.

Today's Shining the Light Challenge at Our Daily Bread Designs is so fun and fitting for a post-April Fool's Day.  Today we want you to use stitching or for April Fool's - faux stitching on your creation!  I chose to go with the faux stitching route since I haven't done it for a long time.  I wanted to get some more masculine cards in my stash too, so I pulled out this great set Fishers of Men, and my Copic Markers. 

 

After coloring the card I added sponging details with my Ranger Distress Inks (Tea Stain), and then added some copic pointillism for the sand, and glittery shimmer on the details with my glitter pen.  For my faux stitching I added a faux blanket stitch around the edges and then two cross stitches on each side of the main image.  I also like the nautical knotting I added with the hemp on each side too.  It all helps with the masculine feel too.

Yesterday, Today and Forever

Today at Our Daily Bread Designs the Shining the Light Challenge team is bringing you some beautiful creations for Easter.  It seems hard to believe it's just a week away! 

For me, Easter is the Cross, and how Jesus purchased my freedom in such a costly way;  I am incredibly grateful!  The truth that He is the same yesterday, today and forever holds me firmly with confidence.  He has shown me in the most ultimate way that I can depend on Him.  So I combined three sets from ODBD for this Easer themed card.  The cross and dove image is from Confirmation, the Verse is from Scripture Collection Four, and Ironworks Borders. 

I stamped the cross in Cameo Coral on Sahara Sand paper, and then embossed the verse in silver overtop.    I also embossed the Ironworks border onto some Cameo Coral paper, and then just trimmed out the corners placing them on the Floral Accent Shapeabilities. I paired this with this pretty metallic paper from SEI called Claire , sometimes when you look at it it shimmers silver, other times almost gold, so, I added some highlighting to the dove etc. with my Stardust glitter pen. 

Above you can see I added another Fancy Floral Shapeabilities with pearls, and below you can see the ribbon treatment more closely.

Some ruffled loops of silk ribbon adhered to the underside of the main image, and a small silk bow.

Yesterday, Today and Forever

A Taste of Spring Snowdrops

It's another Saturday with the Shining the Light Challenges at Our Daily Bread Designs!  Did you know it's the first day of Spring today?  So that's our theme...create something with the theme of spring. 

I wanted to create something that shows what Spring looks like here!  Though we've had a very mild winter and the snow is about 2/3 melted, we're still in that stage of mostly soft colors, not too much spring color yet, that sort of grey blue phase.  So I took this beautiful Lily of the Valley from the Easter Blessings set, and colored it softly with my Copic Markers, adding a soft blue around the plant too, then after I was done I added Dazzling Diamonds glitter on the flowers to make them look like shimmering Snowdrops. 

Below you can see a better picture of the shimmer.   I sewed and distressed all the layers of designer paper (Memory Box Dewfrost), adding some teeny tiny pearls, diagonal ribbon and a punched row behind it with the sheer ribbon in a pretty double bow.
