Hi Hydrangea!

Dropping in to see you today with a sweet little number that feels soft and romantic to me.  It’s with the lovely Power Poppy image Hydrangea Hype.  What’s lovely about this image is that it comes with the Hydrangea in full flower, or with this pretty little “Hi” nestled between the petals.  

Today I’ve coloured it up with Copics, finishing the colouring with Prisamcolor Pencils.  I trimmed it out fussy cutting style and then created the background to pair with the purples and blues of the hydrangea and the acid green of the leaves.  

To create the background I used some circular squiggles of my lighter shades of Copics at the top and a shade darker at the bottom, and then used my Copic blending solution on a paper towel to lift up some of the colour to get that muted look to the colours.  

It’s really lovely behind the hydrangeas.  I framed up the image with a scalloped rectangle stitched die and then added some iridescent sequins.  They pick up all the right colours from the image. 

And there you have it!  Perfect for a beautiful spring hello!

Hi Hydrangea!

Soft Springtime

We’ve had a full week working on landscaping at our place.  I more than doubled the size of one of our front flower beds giving it gently rounded edges.  We added 7 yards of garden mix for the new flowerbeds, amending soil for other beds and adding raised beds my husband made for a veggie garden in the back.  Did you know how much 7 years of soil weighs?  About 14 000 pounds, or 6350 kg!  It took us all day with the help of our sons, but our spaces are looking awesome and I can’t wait to plant all the new flowers and veggies this weekend.  We’ve had periods of cool weather this spring, so I need to wait till there’s no risk of frost.  Our rule of thumb here in Zone 3 is to plant after May long weekend.  Next year I’ll have many more spring tulips, daffodils, hyacinth and then a whole host of summer plants coming!  

  

My current tulips are up and they are blooming beautifully, and it reminded me of this card I had made but hadn’t posted yet.  It’s with Power Poppy’s lovely digital set Magnolia Sunshine that’s perfect for some springtime cheer.  Coloured up with Copics and Prismacolour Pencils for these pops of soft Spring.  

I’ve added a soft background of sponged in gingham stripes in pink, splatters of amethyst ink, a few sequins, eyelet scallops and a little bow.  It’s sure a cheerful image!

Soft Springtime

Abundant Birthday Blossoms

Yesterday was a friend’s birthday and I wanted to give her a card that celebrates things we both love, gardening, flower and art.  We’ve brainstormed via phone, text and video chats about new garden spaces we’re both planning this season.  We’ve compared notes and drawings and it’s been a fun way to anticipate spring. Especially since it was a bit late arriving here.  

I pulled out one of my favourites, Power Poppy’s Abundant Petals (a bummer that it’s sold out right now, but I’m sure it will be back soon!).  Stamping it onto watercolour paper with VersaFine ink and then watercolouring them up with some vibrant colours using Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors.  My friend and I both have a love of a cottage style garden - or wild as we’ve both described it, with lots of colour and variety.  I tried to mimic that a bit in this card garden.  

After watercolouring I die cut all the pieces using the coordinating dies for this set and arranged them all on a watercolour background (Jadeite Green if you were wondering.  I love it’s granulation).  

I love this little sentiment in the set!  I’ve added a couple of clear sequins to accent the design.  

She loves donuts, it’s her love language :), so we made some raspberry cake donuts and I packaged them up with a bow and tag.  

This sweetly scripted sentiment is from the Floribunda set.  Tied up with a big fat yellow bow and a bit of twine and it’s a cheerful little treat that I dropped off socially distantly to surprise her.

Abundant Birthday Blossoms

Poppies Poppin' on May Day

It seems appropriate to be posting some poppin’ blooms on May Day!  And while I can’t leave a basket of flowers on all of your doorsteps, I can send you some virtual beauties with some lovely sets from Power Poppy.  Today I’ve used 3 different Power Poppy sets that showcase ....Poppies!  The main image uses Perfect Poppies digital set.  This way I can make it into a larger size that I like.  I’ve coloured it with Copics and paired it with a pretty purple background.  I used this same purple to do my shading in the leaves and petals of the poppy blooms.  It’s cut with a MFT Scalloped Circle die.  

On the white cardbase I stamped a few more poppy leaves using the Poppy XL stamp set to tie things together.  Unfortunately this set sold out in the sale Marcy’s been having Poppies.  You can see that I’ve added that same bit of purple around the background leaves, with a bit of pointillism.  

Lastly, I added the sentiment from Power Poppy’s stamp set Poppies.  I’ve included a bit of baker’s twine to ground the middle layer.  Feels like a bit of summer sunshine!
