The 3 Marker Challenge!

Hi Everyone!

Today we’re ushering in a new challenge at Power Poppy and I get to be the hostess!  I thought that we’d do something a little bit unique this month - no foolin’!

Have you heard about the 3 Marker Challenge?  If you google it you’ll find tons of videos on YouTube that show artists creating pieces with only 3 markers.  The real rules say you have to choose 3 markers at random (close your eyes and just pick) and whatever you pull out you colour with!  There’s some pretty creative things out there and some really gifted artists.

For this month with Power Poppy though, I’m going to go a little easier on you.  I’m asking you to choose one of the 3 options.

1.  Pick three markers from the same colour family to create a monochromatic design

2.  Pick three markers from complementary colour families  - (this will be easier to blend, for example red, yellow, orange or blue, green, purple)

3.  Or, for the courageous or expert....pick three random markers and colour away!

Remember only 3 markers!  They can be alcohol based or water based, your choice.

Today I decided to do option number two and pick three markers from complementary colour families, YG23 green, BG11 blue-green and BV02 purple.  I printed out the brand new and lovely spring digi Tulips in Hobnail Pitcher from Power Poppy and then used my 3 markers to give them some life.

As you can see I used all 3 markers in all of the design, it’s just how much of each colour I used in each part that makes the difference.  The leaves are basically green with blue and purple shadows, the pitcher is basically blue-green with green and purple shadows and the tulips even have a little blue or green in them as well.  I think you’ll be surprised at how some of the colours work together.  A tip I learned while doing the colouring is that after you add the alternate colours in the shadows, then go back over that area with your main colour and it blends in much better.

See if you can pick out the different shades in each part!

I really hope you’ll give it a try!  The challenge runs all of April and you could win a Power Poppy set of your choice, just for playing along!

Head on over to the Power Poppy Blog today to see which of the Bloom Brigade is also bringing you some inspiration....

Oh, Christine, first, what a fun challenge and one I will definitely have to try! I struggle with limiting myself to markers, so I love this challenge. And secondly, wow! I love your card and how you've used these three colors to make a gorgeous image shine! Beautifully done, and I love the layout too! Stunning card, as always, sweet friend! You never cease to delight! Hugs!

It's absolutely amazing how you did this with three markers! And so beautiful! I don't think it could look any better with more markers. I especially love how the pitcher came out. I'd be afraid to try with three random markers, but this is incredible! Beautiful card design, too.
