To say that I love this set would be an understatement :) My husband is an avid coffee drinker and though I don’t like the taste of coffee, I do love the atmosphere of a coffee shop and the smell of it brewing. I also have a mom that has loved coffee her whole life, so today I’ll show you a coffee-themed gift I made for her on her birthday. A lot of pictures ahead!
The whole set included - a home-made coffee sleeve for her daily coffee’s out with my Dad, a coffee gift card, and a birthday card.
First up is the Coffee Sleeve and gift card envelope. I just LOVE how this turned out! What I love most about this set is how versatile and well planned each element in the set is. So many little parts to the set that can create a really pulled-together, total package design.
To create the sleeve I used a cardboard one that had come with the cup of coffee and traced it out on the felt. Then I sewed the inner seam and then blanket stitched the rest of the design together. It really didn’t take long at all using embroidery thread. Did you know you can stamp on felt? I used one of the little coffee cups and saucers from the set and Brown Stazon ink to stamp the little felt circle.
For the little mini envelope for the gift card I used Flourishes Classic Kraft cardstock, Emerald Coast Cardstock, and Rich Brown Cardstock, stamping the coffee beans with Memento Rich Cocoa ink, tying the envelope on with some Emerald Coast Seam Binding.
Here are a couple more pictures of the coffee sleeve.
Can you see my one missed stitch where I had to change thread? Sigh….right front and center. But it does add to the rustic homemade appeal :) Next time I hope to do a little bit better on the straightness of my blanket stitches. My mom loved the coffee sleeve, Tim Hortons, where they go daily, doesn’t double cup and she always feels like she’s going to burn her hands. Problem solved :)
And here’s the card! I added the tiniest of the cup and saucer images to the coffee sleeve on the card image to mimic the felt sleeve I had made her. I did give teh image a bit of Copic colouring to give realism to the cup image. Then I added lots of ink to the backgrounds to give it that warm cozy feel using Kraft ink and Memento Teal Zeal. The Birthday part of the sentiment is from another Flourishes set Inside and Out Happy. You might also notice something on this card that is a sneak peek to another set later in the week. But I’m not telling what it is! :)
Some more brown felt for the Victorian Oval shape laying behind the tag to tie into the sleeve design, and a few enamel dots and it’s finished. A very wonderful gift set for my equally wonderful mom!
