Wow, October! It’s my birthday month and I’m celebrating a BIG birthday in a few weeks! So, I want to celebrate all month long, and our new Power & Spark Challenge this month at Power Poppy is right up my alley. Tosh is our hostess and she’s challenged us to create based on the month of our birthday; it could be a seasonal card, something special that happens in your birthday month, or what it means to you. So for me, October is my BD month and also Canadian Thanksgiving. I love the fall motifs and being able to express gratitude, so here’s my card:
I started with the lovely new set, Fortunes of Fall. it showcases some gorgeous thankful images and sentiments and I hadn’t used this more simplified version of the maize that Marcy previously released as a digital Maize for Days. Ornamental corn or Maize comes in so many different varieties, so I took some liberties and created it in colours of yellow, orange, red, purple and blue. I paired the colouring with a bright blue ribbon and trimmed it out with an oval die.
For the background I made my version of a paper quilt, cutting out the different hexagons in patterned paper, adding them in a pattern on the white cardstock, and then running it through a detailed embossing folder to look like the quilt stitching. After that I sanded the surface to age it a bit like an old cozy quilt.
A bright blue seam binding ribbon and a scalloped rectangle frame complete the design.
So....when is your birthday? What do you love about your month? I know there are tons of ways to be inspired, so you’ll find more with my Bloom Brigade Sisters, and then you can join us and create. Enter and you could win a $50 gift code to the Power Poppy store!
