Camellias

Welcome to Day 2 of our December Digi Releases from Power Poppy!  Today's gorgeous flower we’re showing off to you  is one I wasn’t familiar with - being from way up north...but it’s beauty is amazing.  I think a trip down south is in order to check them out, don’t you think?  I also know you will really appreciate it’s beauty.   Camellias is a gorgeous design (available right now!)  illustrated by Marcella and here’s what she has to say about it:

"Jewels of the winter greenhouse, stars of Southern gardens, and the state flower of Alabama, Camellias are a symbol of passion, desire and refinement. I was inspired by the Camellias from the gorgeous collection at the Linnean House at the Missouri Botanical Garden."

I chose to go a little artsy with this design..

I found a picture online with peach camellias and was thinking how pretty peach and grey are together so I decided to give this one the feeling of a tinted photo.  all of the leaves, and smaller blossoms are coloured in Cool Greys.  Then a touch of colour is added to those blooms with an R11 marker.  The largest blossoms I’ve given that full-on peach colour.  I think it’s a great effect.

I’ve added the sentiment on light grey card stock.  What I love about digis is being able to resize them to whatever works with your design, so I shrunk the digi sentiment with the set down so it would fit perfectly in that little circle.  Sequins and sewing finish it off.

Here’s the Copics I used to achieve the tonal colours.

And now these wonderful women have more to show off with this amazing set.

  1. Christine, this card took my breath away the minute I saw it in the gallery. I have always loved your style of coloring, and what you did with these Camellias is positively amazing. I love the peach and gray combination here and your beautiful layout just take this one waaaaay over the top! :)

  4. I cannot even TELL you how awestruck I am by your card. Not only are the colors divine and peaceful, but man, I could "study" how you colored this one for days. In fact, I might pull this one up and try to imitate it -- just to learn how you shade and color like you do! AMAZING -- simply amazing!!!!

  7. Christine, as always, your coloring touches my heart, and to me--nothing means more than to touch someone's heart. The ultimate compliment to me... I think that Julie Koerber's idea of "studying" your coloring is an EXCELLENT one!!! I think I will do that!!! It is my goal to be able to color well, and it is a goal that is miles ahead of me, but I am realizing that I just need to keep taking my baby steps and learning from the "greats" like you and the rest of this amazing Design Team from Power Poppy!

Awhile ago I bought a couple of digital stamps but haven't played with them--yet. I need to re-read Julie's tutorial on how to use them...

I've had a HUGE wish-list of Marcella's stamps, and was able to take some of them off my wish-list this weekend during the sale on Friday. SO GRATEFUL for this sale, as like so many others, I'm on a low and fixed income due to disability. I wanted to get the beautiful winter church scene with the lovely bible verses, another time when it's back in stock and another sale is on... I'm really grateful to Julie for her suggestion to "study", as I cannot get out much at all, so taking classes usually doesn't work, and that's the best way to learn coloring--to watch a master at work.

Have you ever created any coloring tutorials? If not, I'd highly encourage you to do so--I know how much I would appreciate it. I do have some copics, and all I seem to do is create a muddy mess, hmmm. Nothing touches me like especially a beautiful floral stamped image colored well!!! So perhaps when you have some spare time, and I know it is at a premium, especially this time of year when I'm sure your church duties are really ramped up with so many Christmas programs. But perhaps when you're snowed in and need a new project, I'd LOVE it if you created some tutorials for people who are "coloring-challenged" like me. And wouldn't you know it, that I just LOVE to see gorgeous coloring and I really want to know how to take my own coloring to the next step (which believe me, isn't great, hmmm....)... I'm 905lovestostamp on SCS, my gallery is small, hoping as I can to increase it. Lately that hasn't been possible, but I'm just starting to "play" again in a limited way. My heart is willing, my body--well, not so much... So I can still learn while my body rests, at least that's my goal...

Sorry that I wrote this "book". WOW, as always your cards inspire me. Loved this artsy expression, love what you do in all of your cards, and your Power Poppy cards are by far my favorite, although all of your cards are beautiful. Marcella has the unique ability to create stamps that are stunningly beautiful and at the same time they touch the heart in a very deep and very soulful even vulnerable place. What talent--what artistry, both of you!!! I always look forward to these new releases, and to also see what this amazing DT does with them. I hope that none of you leave it, you are such a great group together!!!! Thanks for all that you teach me, Christine.

God's blessings upon you and your family, and I hope you all have the most blessed and restful and enjoyable Christmas ever!!!

    Hugs,

    Joanne

  13. Oh my I just love those colors, I don't have those for my flowers, I tried with the marker colors I have on my card today, but I so love what you did, that gray offsets it so nicely!
