Thankful for Teachers

Today I am honored with something pretty special at the There She Goes Blog :)  please check it out!

This coming Monday is Thanksgiving in Canada :)  Yippee!... stuffing and mashed potatoes and gravy... oh sorry...got distracted there.

I often try to make something for our kids' teachers on Thanksgiving because they are people I am very thankful for.  This year, one specific set really caught my eye and it's found at There She Goes called Believe in You.  Oh man it's just perfect!  It's great for parents to give to teachers, for teachers themselves and for kids....such fantastic sentiments and such CUTE stuff to color!

Then when I had the set in my hands I had a brilliant idea pop into my head and I just KNEW what I'd make for our youngest son's teacher.

I've had this very cute tin mail box for so long, I had intended to create something for Valentine's Day for our youngest and it just never happened, but how about a mailbox for a teacher to have on her desk???  And wait till you see what's inside too!  I have lots of pictures for you to see.

I stamped the cute school house and colored with Copics and used an oval nesties and a Labels Fourteen (that had been run through a PTI alphabet texture plate) to frame it with a few buttons as accent.  The paper is older SU...sorry can't remember the name, but it had a school feel to it.

Here is the front and then back of the mailbox

I added a cotton ribbon bow tie on the top.

and below is a closeup of the coloring...isn't she CUTE?

I really kept the embellishments simple - though I would have liked to have *gussied it up* more, the reality is this is a class of Grade 2's and 3's and extra *stuff* doesn't really matter to them, or it will just get played with.

Above is the "flag side", I really miss mailboxes in the US with the flags.  For those of you who live outside the US, mailboxes there have flags on them that you can raise to let the mailman know you have mail to pick up.  And they would pick it up!!!  It was fantastic :)  But this way when the teacher wants the kids to know there is mail in the box she can raise the flag and let the kids know that THEY have mail....see what's inside....

Sorry for the photograph on this one, caught the edge of my background paper....but you can see that I created special notes that the teacher can write to encourage the kids.  I have enough in there for her to write at least one note to each student as time goes on, and when she runs out I'll create more for her.   FYI - You can click on any of these pictures to see them larger.

Each of the cards is very simple, just a 3.5 x 5 card with an image stamped and colored, a pretty strip of embossed letters and then an encouragement sentiment on each.  She'll have room to write something and then she can put it in the mailbox for them and raise the flag :)!   For me it's as much a gift to the class as it is to her.  How encouraging to get a little note from you teacher like this don't you think?

and one last picture...

I love seeing something that was in your head come out onto paper.  It just gives me such great joy!

Thanks for stopping by today.  Drop by tomorrow and I'll have our Flourishes Pre-Release Challenge and on Saturday I'll show you the card I gave to the teacher to go with the Classroom Mailbox.
