Futbol Anyone?

With the dog days of summer winding down, kids far and wide are trying to squeeze in as much of the great outdoors as they can before fall rolls in. (in our case right now....if you can fight the mosquitos!)  Remember those fun neighborhood games that your parents couldn't drag you away from as a child? Our challenge this month is to be inspired by a kids game! Use a red and green combo that's inspired by a game of Red Light/Green Light. How about a tag on your card to tell some one "Tag... you're it!" Four square anyone? What about a little flag on your card to represent a game of capture the flag? Enter, and you could walk away with all three stamps in Flourishes’ August release!

For me, of course, I was inspired by watching children and young kids play in Mexico. Futbol (in Spanish), or soccer (as we know it) is commonly played on the street, in an empty lot, in outdoor soccer fields - all over.  And wow are those kids good!  Our Canadian kids had a hard time keeping up!   My son said it was so fun for him, even when he was losing - he said it taught him a lot and made him a better player :)   I loved his happy attitude.   The church in Mexico City that we worked with is about 6 blocks from Azteca Stadium, one of the larger Soccer Stadiums in the world, and I believe it holds 160 000 people.

So I wanted to take the soccer theme and turn it up a little notch giving it some Flourishes Style...and also create something elegant.

First I began by cutting out a lot of small Octagon shapes with my Big Shot and Nestabilities, then I used the beautiful smaller Damask image from Fanciful Flourishes stamping it in the center of each Octagon.  I laid these diagonally side to side on a circle of Basic Black cardstock (cut to size using some graduated bowls I have as a template).  I stuck these down with Scor Tape to ensure they wouldn't slip.  I trimmed off anything hanging over the edge of my circle and then framed it up using larger sizes of circle shapes cut with my bowls, adding some red silk ribbon and a sentiment (from the Tag Lines set), and some black rhinestones in the damask images too.

What you might not be able to see is that I also added some beautiful black braided ribbon along the outer edge, which accents it simply, but nicely.

So, how about you join us in this challenge?   Can you imagine winning this month's whole New Release???

You have until Friday, August 13th at 5 PM EST to enter for your chance to win. Use Flourishes stamps if you have them but if you don’t, please play along anyway. If you upload to SCS, please use the keyword FLLCAUG10. To be eligible you need to link your creation at the Flourishes Blog.  Have fun with it!
