My Alberta Skies

Now that the month of December is upon us, we’re issuing in a new challenge at Power Poppy for the Power and Sparks Challenge.  This month its a fun theme because you get to choose from any of our monthly challenge themes from the past year!  We have ten themes you can choose from and here they are:

  • The Sky's the Limit (Use sky colors – sunsets, blue sky, gray sky, any color found in the sky.)
  • Go for the Gold (Use gold in any way – color, embellishments, embossing.)
  • Pop of Pastel (Use soft pastel colors.)
  • Cut it Out (Fussy cut all or part of your image.)
  • Pencil Me In (Color with pencils, including watercolor pencils.)
  • Hang Some Paper (Use at least three different patterns or colors of designer paper.)
  • Shabby & Chic (Soft, feminine, romantic, the appearance of age and wear.)
  • Gifts from the Heart (Gifts or gift packaging, tags, etc.)
  • Bits & Pieces (Use just a portion of an image. Stamp off the edge or cut it out, etc.)
  • Embellish This (Use embellishments)

  • My creation fits into two categories - The Sky’s the Limit and Hang Some Paper.  After seeing some of the lovely cards from our Power Poppy fans with our Bow Wow Wow set recently, I knew I wanted to pull it out and design something with it again.

Our Alberta skies are truly wonderful.  We’re nicknamed Sunny Alberta because of all the sunshine we get here on the prairies.  Even though in winter, the days are short, it’s still more often sunny than cloudy.  I do love that.  So, this design has those deep blues for our wide open skies...and then a little bit of yellow popped in there for the beautiful sunshine.

The image is stamped onto XPress It Blending cardstock, and then coloured up with Copics, you can see that I added lots of touches of sparkle with my glitter pen on the mitton, ribbon, the pom poms and the heart.  I tried to mimic the chevron from the mitten in the background with a Spellbinders border die in the patterned paper layers.

A little bit of shimmery ribbon, rhinestones and a wood veneer heart finish it off.

Here’s the rest of the Bloom Brigade playing along today that you can visit for inspiration and then I hope you’ll join us in the challenge this month.  There are lots of themes to choose from and you could win a Power Poppy set of your choice!

I've been wanting to get this image out again, too. So many stamps to color! This is so pretty, Christine. Love how you used the designer papers in your design, and your coloring, as always, rocks!

Fresh and beautiful. I need to dust this one off as you inspired me. The colors are fabulous and I do like the matching designer papers.
