Old Tea Rose

Welcome to Day 2 of Flourishes Sneak Peeks for May! Those April showers have brought May flowers and we're bringing a beautiful flower to you today too, it's a brand new set from a brand new illustrator for Flourishes! We'd like to introduce...

OldTeaRoseGraphic

It's a gorgeous new set that celebrates the majestic rose. Artistically drawn by our new artist Sam Pickard, this old tea rose just begs to be colored with style. This elegant floral features three accent images, including a stately looking butterfly and five beautifully scripted sentiments - all on a 4 by 6" set. This set will also have a Silhouette Cut file available as well for wonderful creative options.

If you've been following me a long time you know I really do love to watercolour, but don't always make the time for it.  But this image really lends itself to watercoloring as well as other mediums.  Though I have to say -  I went really out of my comfort zone with it, and did a very loose water-colour ...sort of a watercolouring without borders theme. :)  I added quite a bit of moisture to my watercolour paper before I coloured to get the bleed effect, and I let the colour have a mind of it's own to some extent.  Though I feel a bit out of my "zone" showing it to you...I really do like the overall effect, it's very organic.

I began by stamping the images from Old Tea Rose onto watercolour paper (cold pressed) with VersaFine ink.  Isn't that little butterfly pretty?  I watercoloured with a mix of Ranger Distress Re-Inkers, and watercolour markers.  That way you get the bleed with the reinkers and then the finishing details with the markers.  I washed in the background, then flicked some colour onto the paper to get the dots, and then sponged the edges of the Spellbinders Circle die with Tea Die Distress Ink.  I actually distressed the papers (Teresa Collins - Now and Then) as well to get them to be just the right tone to match the main image.

A few fun details to finish it all off...wood buttons and jute twine all on a Flourishes Classic Kraft cardbase.  And, here's the inside of the card:

I am loving all of this month's release but this rose reminds me of the old fashioned tea roses that grow wild in my home state of West Virginia and I was transported right back to my childhood. Thank you!
